COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Aromas of coffee, cocoa, and caramel. Jet black with a mostly lasting, satiny tan head. Off-dry with flavors of dark chocolate, savory, and roasty. Light-medium bodied, smooth, creamy, and finishes with some vanilla tones.
Earlier Rating: 1/20/2013 Total Score: 3.8
Aromas of espresso beans, dark chocolate, and earthy hops. Black-brown, with ruby highlights, and a quickly fading, tan head. Tastes great, with solid robustness for a milk stout; starts with a sweet chocolatey/roasted coffee flavor, and dries up with some more complex, dirtier hop bitterness. Medium bodied, creamy, with low carbonation, and a semi-sweet, roasty finish.

Pours black with thick mocha head. Aroma of subtle chocolate and dried cherries. Taste is smooth, sweet but not cloying. Chocolate and figs predominate. Thick mouthfeel. Good nitro backbone. Overall great milk/sweet stout ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tough to be reviewing a style which I discover that I don’t like upon opening the bottle. Cloyingly sweet to my taste and not in the same ballpark as, let’s say, a drier stout like Murphy’s. I had to Black and Tan this with a lager to get it down. Well, live and learn.

Medium chocolate taste, sweet, creamy. Pretty dark, almost black, but not too thick and heavy. Goes down smooth, not much bitterness from the hops. Decent carbonation and head. Was the first Milk Stout that I had tried I believe. Tried a few other cream/milk stouts since then, but not sure if anything as good as this. Will be buying again for some reassurance.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark black with a red hue and a thin tan head that lasts. Taste is of roasted malt, caramel, milk, hops, vanilla, chocolate and some dark fruit. Similar aroma. Has a full body. The nitro version is a bit creamier, but both are excellent. A very good beer regardless of the version. Great flavors and very easy to drink.

Bottle. Black beauty with a creamy beige head. Vanilla chocolate and is so rounded, silky and creamy. Hasn’t try a sweet stout like this before. Just lovely.
