This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Very sweet notes in the nose, sort of like melted ice milk from Dairy Queen. Pour is a pretty damn solid deep brown with little light sneaking through. Thin mottled tan head rests on surface. Wonderful sweet milk aroma meshes with some roast notes. Super flavorful sip...definitely some roasted barley which leaves burnt/ashy taste in back of mouth, but front of flavor is sweet and rich. Good mouthfeel. Bitter/sweet balance is hard to comprehend, but it exists. Very unique stout.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass to drink, the beer had a watery black color with a thick creamy average-sized tan head with good retention, cling, and lacing. Its aroma featured chocolate and molasses along with some milk and cream and a mild earthy hops. The taste was mostly sweet and milky with notes of chocolate and caramel, along with some earthy and grainy bitter tastes. A very creamy and watery beer with a thicker mouthfeel and soft feel on the palate with low carbonation.

Dark brown with mahagony hues offering a creamy chocolatey head. Aromas of roasted malts, milk chocolate, milk-coffee, mocha and hints of toasted white bread develop. Very smooth and light faint livelyness wi a medium coffee like body. Sweet and roasted bitterness intertwine and are well balanced. Medium lasting finish with chocolate coffee notes.

Tap @ BrewDog Södermalm. Black with a small and short lastning beige head, some lacing. Aroma: licorice, milk chocolate, rosted coffee beans. Silky smooth mouthfeel, gentle carbonated. Licorice taste with creamy caffe latte notes.

Very smooth, but I prefer the Nitro version of this Stout. Can’t go wrong with this Milk Stout.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. This beer is motor oil black with a very small tan colored head. It has almost zero carbonation and is creamy smooth. An outstanding beer.

Robe brune, peu de mousse. Arômes café, chocolat noir, biscuit, fumé. Goût chocolat et crème. Final chocolat. Moyennement longue en bouche. Texture crémeuse. Une bonne Stout.

Poured from a bottle. Rich, dark, with an opaque chocolate mahogany hue. Medium tan head that holds well. Deep roasted malts aroma and flavors with coffee and hints of vanilla. Very sweet profile, actually a bit heavy for my preference. Wish there was a little more dynamic play with hops, just really sweet.

Pitch black, low beige thick head. Aroma espresso, milk chocolate, raisins. Taste rounded with overal sweet bladness which really takes away the edge and leaves everything...sweet. Hops onlz in total finish and neutral. Mild but good enough.
