COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Appearance: Very dark, nearly black. Love the cascading bubbles as the pint comes off the tap. Builds a majestically creamy white head at the top that sticks around forever. Some lacing, though nothing intense. Looks outstanding. Smell: Some faint roastiness, some bitter smokiness, and some chocolate notes. Smells like a stout, not much more to say here. Taste: Great balance between the roasty malt bitterness and a touch of chocolaty sweetness. This milk stout is not too sweet, probably because it does not have the addition of actual chocolate or other brewing adjuncts. This one has a right amount of sweetness to compliment, but not overpower, the roastiness, and makes this one drink somewhat like dessert coffee or dark chocolate mousse. Finishes sweet. Mouthfeel: Creamy due to the nitro bubbles. Felt smooth as silk on the palate. Overall: Exquisite smoothness from the nitro makes this balanced milk stout fantastically easy and pleasurable drinking. Would certainly buy again, especially when looking for a nice, easy-drinking stout. This beer is fantastic on-tap, and is a vast improvement over an already good bottled product. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nitro. From a bottle with Enjoy by date 05/03/15. Appearance is the attraction here, with cascading head from the nitrogen. Mostly black, but not viscous. Aroma is just roasty, not very sweet like I would expect from other milk stouts. Maybe hidden by the thick, creamy head. Taste follows nose, just roasted malts, and not sweet at all. There’s a chalky taste that dries the mouth. Generally underwhelmed.

Nitro-edition from bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 23.02.15. Almost black. Pale, brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla. Good drinkability.

This is, hands down, my favorite milk stout. Perfect sweetness from the milk sugars, well balanced and rich. Poured with a head, it's almost too pretty to drink.

Bottle: Dense, black as night; deep tan colored head, thick & creamy. Lasts for a bit but leaves no lacing behind. Aroma is full of sweet milky chocolates & light toasted malt. Huge mouth feel, super creamy & thick. Like Vitamin D milk. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate chips, dark chocolate milk, hints of coffee, & a touch of roast. No noticeable hops, really, just an onslaught of dark malts & milk sugar sweetness. Low carbonation. The nitro versions have a cooler appearance with the fine bubbled head, as well as a more lazy, yet silkier mouth feel. Aroma & taste are identical, though. Overall, solid milk stout. A bit too far on the sweet side to be a regular drinker for me, but still tasty.

Nitro bottle. This thing could not be smoother. Black pour with thin creamy brown top. Aromas of so much roasted. Flavor is quite sweet. Delicious.

12 oz nitro bottle bottomed up into Sam Smith imp pint glass A: Black brown color. Nitro show lasts 10-20 seconds. Head retains well and even hangs onto the neck of the bottle. Laces like a blanket. S: Bitter chocolate and toasted dark bread. Subtle. T: So silky smooth as almost seems someone slipped me a chocolate soda. Bitter but smooth and sweetish now is the chocolate malt. A hint of hop also now noticed towards the middle. This is a rare stout that I can drink 2-3 of. Very good! M: Watery or rather milky texture belies the 6%abv. Warming swallow though. Carbonation is very present but silky smooth and not at all unpleasant. Finishes wet but clean. O: Probably my favorite stout to date. I will have to sample a non-nitro bottle and compare textures. Well done and highly recommended.

On tap, small sample, on nitro. Typical color, dense nitro head, light, nice roasted, coffee cocoa aroma. Taste is mild roasted notes, slightly burnt, hint of coffee and chocolate. Smooth, a little thinner than expected. Overall, enjoyable, very easy to drink, and I like the complexity with this.

35,5cl bottle at Parkteatret, Oslo. Pours very dark brown with a lasting beige head. Moderate roasty aroma with notes of milk chocolate, caramel and hints of hops. Medium sweet with mild roasty flavours and a fairly balanced bitterness. Tasty and enjoyable.
