COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Appearance: Very dark, nearly black. Love the cascading bubbles as the pint comes off the tap. Builds a majestically creamy white head at the top that sticks around forever. Some lacing, though nothing intense. Looks outstanding. Smell: Some faint roastiness, some bitter smokiness, and some chocolate notes. Smells like a stout, not much more to say here. Taste: Great balance between the roasty malt bitterness and a touch of chocolaty sweetness. This milk stout is not too sweet, probably because it does not have the addition of actual chocolate or other brewing adjuncts. This one has a right amount of sweetness to compliment, but not overpower, the roastiness, and makes this one drink somewhat like dessert coffee or dark chocolate mousse. Finishes sweet. Mouthfeel: Creamy due to the nitro bubbles. Felt smooth as silk on the palate. Overall: Exquisite smoothness from the nitro makes this balanced milk stout fantastically easy and pleasurable drinking. Would certainly buy again, especially when looking for a nice, easy-drinking stout. This beer is fantastic on-tap, and is a vast improvement over an already good bottled product. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout Nitro : Look; beige film on black body. Aroma; flower, milk chocolate. Taste; roasted malts, black caramel, milky impression - leading to a fruity finish. On palate normal. Overall; name’s understood, it’s a milky way. [355ml btl, abv5.4%, B@Vinmonopolet 9020 N]

Definitely a milk stout. Silky smooth with strong milk flavor and smell. However everything else about it is fairly run of the mill. Definitely has the milk character it should but nothing much to offer me outside of that. Nitro bottles never work for me, only make a bitter pour with little to no head. On draft this stands a chance of being worth a try.

THE standard by which all milk stouts are judged, at least for me. Sure there are better, and certainly there are worse, but this is the measuring stick.

Nitro version. Pours black, beautiful and persistent foamy head. Aroma has some soft roast, milky. Taste is also silky and you can feel the sweetish nitro working. Overall quite well done although not too special or spectacular.

Bottle ( 12 Oz): hard pour leaves silky tan head. Black beer. Taste some chocolate and coffee, but just don’t like the lack of carbonation. Too smooth for me.
