COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Very dark brown with a nice creamy tan nead and very good lace. Standard stout aroma of roasted malt, chocoalte, coffee, aromatic hops, and minor tones of citrus and smoke. Malty chocolate sweet and fruity twang flavor, sort of wierd, interesting. Slight coffee bitter finish. The mouthfeel was creamy like a milk stout. The overall flavor and texture was good. I liked this despite some different characteristics.

As a coffee fan, I expected this to be a little sweeter when suggested to me. That said, it’s still pretty good. Very dark pour and def. a different speed than my traditional favorites. My cousin enjoyed it very much.

Bottle. Dark, almost black with a thin brownish head. Rich aroma of roasted malt and nuts with a hint of chocolate. Full taste, smooth and sweet with a bit of bitterness to balance; dark roasted malt flavor with some chocolate and caramel. Really nice beer.

This is delicious. I’m drinking it with my family and it makes me happy. This is also my first rating with my new phone so I’m in a positive mood.

Nitro draft. Black color. Muted hop aroma. Very fine bubble, frothy head. Sweet, hoppy flavor. Relatively simple flavors for a stout. Slightly bitter finish.

Bottle @ Fiddlers. Finally got to try this one.. Pours a pitch black coloured beer with a reddish hue coming trough. Forms a small. light tanned head that leaves quickly. Aroma of coffee and roast, and I could detect some creamy notes, like a cold latte machiatto. Flavour has again the creamy coffee notes with roastiness present. Really sweet, rounded drinking experience. Glad I finally got this.

Pours jet black with a paper thin head into my ccb snifter aroma of roasted malts, caramel. Almost like roasted marshmallows. Taste follows the nose, sweet but not overdone, finishes roasty and a bit dry making me come back for more. Very delicious, my go to milk stout

Bottle. Pours oqaque black. Small creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate milk. Flavor of dark roasted coffee with some chocolate. Good lacing. Cream palate. Roasty dark coffee mouthfeel. This was my first Left Hand beer and I was very impressed. I picked it up at my local liquor store as a single. Will not hesitate to grab a six of this if I see it again.

From November 2008: Brown 355ml bottle obtained from Utobeer in Borough Market, London. One in a mixed bag of Colorado beers I picked up some time ago (in exchange for a lot of money). Thanks ColoradoBobs for your help in choosing the beers. Dark black colour with a light tan head, the beer had a red hue at the edges when offered to the light. I used my Westmalle Chalice to drink from. The taste and aroma came across like this. Choose one or all of these, Toasted malts, Roasted coffee, Burnt caramel. Mix them up and leave your favourite, that is what I found anyway. Sweet at first, it became a more like a bitter dark chocolate bar towards the end of the taste. Strange one this, not rich or really creamy as a true Milk Stout should be. An OK beer, but missing something in its style.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with about a finger of dark tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Taste is about the same, but more chocolate than coffee. Full bodied with a very creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long creamy finish. Overall, I’m liking this one. I wish it was still around my area so I could grab more.

On tap. Dark brown with tawny highlights. Beautiful long, persistent head. Very chocolatey without that much roastiness. Slight fruitiness. Smooth, good-bodied. Sweet, but not cloying. I can see what the hype is about.
