3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Enjoyed on tap in a shaker glass. The beer pours an opaque black color, with a dense light to medium tan head. The nose shows notes of dark chocolate and caramel. The palate shows a touch of roasted character initially, before revealing a pleasant amalgam of caramel, toffee, residual lactose-based sweetness, and a balancing bitterness. Carbonation is relatively low and the mouthfeel full, allowing the beer to be substantial, and yet remain eminently drinkable. The finish is long and quite sweet. Overall, a very enjoyable experience, and a very nice example of an all-too-rare style.

I actually had the nitro version. Beautiful, dark stout. Probably around 40 on the SRM scale. I must have not have given it a hard enough pour because the head was weak. Aroma was like a mocha coffee. Nice. Taste included the expected sweet malty flavor, cocoa and left little bitter notes on the aftertaste. I didn’t get any of the oats. It offered low carbonation. Viscosity was med-thick. A fairly delicious beer that I would give another shot and recommend to all.

Bottle. Very dark brown color, tan head. Aroma of chocolate milk with those little marshmallows in it. Taste is sweet and creamy Hershey’s.

On tap. Pitch black body, with a brown, quickly disappearing head, that leaves almost no lace. Very nice, if not a little faint, coffee, vanilla and milky aroma, along with a medium sweet taste, with notes of milk, roastiness and coffee. Thin to medium bodied, watery texture, nice carbonation. Needed a little more body to be considered as a top-class beer.

Pours black, with a still appearance then after a few moments some surface tan foam shows itself. Smells of robust oats, toasted grains, some lactose, some coffee, a bit of leather and some graham and rye bread. Sweet beer, with some interesting root and bitterness along the bread and sweet graham. I like this and there are some flavors I just can’t place my finger on. Nice beer. Silky feel with some light carb and an off dry finish. I like this beer.

Bottle->shaker. Deepest brown with small offwhite head. Sweet creamy chocolate milk beer. I have to be in the right mood for this style, but when I am, this is a great example.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rating from 2007: Sehr dunkel im Glas, beiger Schaum.

355 ml bottle from beer-shop.it served in a Teku. Pitch black, no light passing through, with a dark beige head. Rich and inviting aroma of coffee beans, milk chocolate, burnt/toasted malts, liquorice and a hint of vanilla. I can definitely feel the lactose addition and an overall sweetness in the mouth, with just a shy hint of bitterness. Pleasent aftertaste of light milk chocolate, american coffee and candy bar. Light to medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Not a beer for someone without a sweet tooth. Personally, I’ve enjoyed it a lot!

Bottle enjoyed at the Ale House, Chelmsford. Pours a clear, very dark brown colour, with a beige coloured head. Aroma of mild roasted cocoa. Quite sweet. Medium to full bodied. Velvet texture. Easy drinking, very nice.
