COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

dark chestnut brown body. small head. instant metal and solvent in the nose. medium chocolate and buttery cherry notes as well. syrupy but thin and flabby with more cherry, chocolate and sherry; heavily oxidized and obviously infected. it’s a wonder they let this leave the brewery.

Rich, woody beer. The vanilla from the oak blends splendidly inot the malty base. Some cognac character as well. A fine example of barrel aging.

2009 bottle shared at the 17th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 1/28/12. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, chocolate and wood. The taste is chocolate, cherries, roasted malts, wood, whisky and a bitter hop finish. Medium-full bodied, low carbonation. This aged well. Nice beer.

Svesse (4399) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - NOV 4, 2011
(Bottle, 2009 vintage) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby when seen through light. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted, fruity nose with chocolate, dried fruit, roasted malt, raisins, toffee and chocolate fudge. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, dark bread, dried fruit, raisins, toffee, liquorice, caramel and a toasty cocoa bitterness in the finish. Some warming brandy coming through at the end. The wood character is quite gentle and comes through more like brandy (raisins, dried fruit) than oak. Full body, fairly sweet. Lovely beer.

2007 Bottle - thanks Vince. This one smells like roasted malts with some delicious caramel dominance. The beer pours dark mahogany brown with a light caramel head on top and some sediment. It tastes like rich roasted malts with light sweet notes that settle on the palate. The body is very light, not much carbonation left from the 4 years of aging.
