Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

2009 This is a good one! A malty, slight smokey nose. Very smooth, great palate, chocolate with some bourbon. Well balanced, not too sweet or hoppy. The alcohol is hidden, no sourness. good finish.

2009 vintage from JP’s drank on 10/21/2009. dark porter colored... burgundy brown with a tannish off white head and film comprised of 84 bubbles. it was difficult to wake that thing up... smoky aroma reminds me a bit of tar or burnt rubber erasers... mixed with toasted nuts, coffee, chocolate, cream, dust, more rubber in the form of band-aids, green dirt filled hops and marshmallows... actually, specifically the green woodruff syrup added to a berliner weisse! weird. the rubber note carries over to the flavor and mixes with green wood/barrels, dusty oats, nuts, chocolate, soft sweet smoke, roast and slight vanilla. green spicy hops are numbing, herbaceous and tingly, brandy is vaporous but not hot...it does lend a nice spiciness. it’s odd since it is quite dry throughout with a bitter grainy finish. the smoke and brandy in the barrel really shines in the aftertaste. it is fairly thin bodied when compared to others in the style... i tend to enjoy this... mixed with dryness the 10% is made easier to finish off alone without becoming annoying or cloying. 7/3/7/4/15/3.6

2009 vintage, big bottle, different label design. Shared with the in-laws while playing cards. Pours a very dark brown with a robust brown head. Oaky chocolate and coffee aroma, also treacle. Flavours of molasses, chocolate, coffee, and earthy oak. The finish featured a plastic/bandaid note early on that I didn’t care for, but this became less noticable as the glass became emptier. Nice, but not my first choice among the many nice impies out there.

2009 bottle. Pours black with a small beige head. Some coffe and dark choclate and an exessive amount of wooden taste. I realy don’t see that this beer can deserve an average of 3,9

Bottle. Not a bad beer, just boring. The oak aging of this beer has not made it better. Taste and aroma has a lame oaked character and the "rest of the beer" is just an average imperial stout. The woodiness feels artifical.

Pours a nice dark black with a thin creamy head. Nice malty taste , with hints of chocolate and coffee. It has a slight oak aftertaste. Overall a very nice beer.

2009 edition, drank at the Boise Imperial Stout tasting, I think this was thanks to Rick. Pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head. A sweet oaky nose, toasted malts and chocolates. The flavor is similar; a nice barrel aged brew, oaky, smoke and light bourbon like flavors, roasted malts, smooth and tasty. Very nice. Another night this might have been much higher up, but it still stood its own among the giants.
