3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sweet with flavors of brown sugar, muted orange, pine and burnt oak. Not bad, but a bit dull. I feel like this beer needs something to brighten or perk it up.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2 oz Bomber. The beer pours to a medium amber color with a small white head. The aroma is slightly lighter than expected with notes leather, some earthy notes & a little pine note. The taste was also slightly lighter in body & had a good flavor but not as big as i expected. Overall a good barley wine but needed some aging.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Orange-red with small light tan head. Aroma smoky oak, sweet malts, and piney hops. Full body. Some alcohol but not intrusive. Flavor is smoky as well, the oak is predominant in a wine-like way, and ends with a combination of caramel, citrus, and hops. Complex. A bit harsh? Maybe needs some aging.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber vintage 2013, at 10.7% abv, Best By: 11/15/18. Nose of heavy caramel and heavy oak, just a touch of smoke, but surprised there’s not too much there overall. Pours reddish-amber with orange lowlights, clear with only a little sediment and a soapy beige head. Taste lightly bitter, relatively dry (though with some little rivulets of sugar complexities), some woody cedar closet type blanket love and a meaty smoke overtone. Lightly fruity with a touch of acetone, but otherwise the alcohol is relatively well-cloistered and done with a bit of class. Lavender and floral tones from the hops, there’s some caramel but in general malt holds up as the biggest strength, and there’s a lightly spicy undertone, don’t know if from wood or hops or what. Full body, minimal carbonation. I am loving the wood and smoke character, not an vanilla/oak bomb as predicted, but with a chewy center. A really nice sipper.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma blends caramel malts, vanilla, and booze, and the appearance is a clear orange with a small white head. The taste is slightly bitter, slightly sour, and a touch sweet, and the palate fuses a slick texture, medium body, flat carbonation, and a fairly abrupt finish. This doesn’t taste like a barley wine, and it’s really not the best.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz bottle shared; around 8 bucks at Kroger, Bridge St., Dublin. Pours a non-hazy dark orange-brown with a rather disappointing small white head with no lasting power. Aroma is lighter than expected, with sugar, raisin; barely some peat. Flavor is heavily malty, sugary, light toast, but shockingly astringent; unpleasant sharp, bitter bite. The alcohol is evident and hidden poorly, and instead of a friendly warmth it has a note of facial cleanser. Weak, too thin, slightly off-putting. Maybe something was wrong with my bottle, I don’t know. This would probably improve with a couple years on the shelf. Terribly disappointing. I’ve said for years that Left Hand makes substandard beer, but I have been recently reassured that only their 6-pack beers are lacking; this particular beer reinforces my earlier opinion, which remains that Left Hand is largely not worth drinking.
