3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma blends caramel malts, vanilla, and booze, and the appearance is a clear orange with a small white head. The taste is slightly bitter, slightly sour, and a touch sweet, and the palate fuses a slick texture, medium body, flat carbonation, and a fairly abrupt finish. This doesnít taste like a barley wine, and itís really not the best.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz bottle shared; around 8 bucks at Kroger, Bridge St., Dublin. Pours a non-hazy dark orange-brown with a rather disappointing small white head with no lasting power. Aroma is lighter than expected, with sugar, raisin; barely some peat. Flavor is heavily malty, sugary, light toast, but shockingly astringent; unpleasant sharp, bitter bite. The alcohol is evident and hidden poorly, and instead of a friendly warmth it has a note of facial cleanser. Weak, too thin, slightly off-putting. Maybe something was wrong with my bottle, I donít know. This would probably improve with a couple years on the shelf. Terribly disappointing. Iíve said for years that Left Hand makes substandard beer, but I have been recently reassured that only their 6-pack beers are lacking; this particular beer reinforces my earlier opinion, which remains that Left Hand is largely not worth drinking.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
651 ml. bottle. Vintage 2013. BBD 11/16/18. 10.7% ABV. Pours a medium, tiny bubbled, well retained ivory head, with some lacing, over a clear dark amber (SRM 15) body....nose is sweet malts, with light dried fruits (raisin, fig), minimal hops, light vanilla.....taste is light bitterness to start, then slight malt sweetness with raisin, fig, date tones, peach, light wood with hints of vanilla, vinous tones, ending with a very moderate finishing bitterness, with pineapple notes.....mouth feel medium, sticky, alcohol heat present, carbonation low with light acid. This is a very, very, young and slightly raw, Barley Wine which should age well. It is more vinous than many. In many ways this is a cross between an English Barley Wine and a Fino Sherry, with the complex malt fruity sweetness being balanced back by the light hops and the wood from the barrel. The longer it breathed the more complex this youngster became. It has a long life in front of it, so make use of the fifth ingredient in Barley Wines, time. BJCP 9/3/16/4/8

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle with an ABV. of 10.7%, The liquor store says they just got this in, so must be a 2013. Pours clear amber with a somewhat quick soapy off white head that dissipates to a sudsy collar. Aroma has a good mix of fruit and woodiness with muted hops and caramel malt in the finish. Taste is boozy wood bark and fruit somewhat burnt flavors with bitter hops burnt caramel malt and more peat smoked booze in the finish. Palate is medium slick and sticky with a warming dry finish. This may mature with time, but Iím not going to buy another to find out.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
double deuce (2009) - pours cloudy amber with more head than a sexist joke about your mom. Nose is fruity, earthy, and nutty. Sip introduces wood, European summer fruit and perhaps almonds. Fruity for a barleywine. Sweet with a metallic aftertaste. A great compliment for autumnís first backyard campfire.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz. bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks again, Dan! 2009 vintage. Pours a semi-hazed pale orange color with a small white head. Looks oddly paler than it should, Iím guessing. Aroma of sugar, apricots, gold raisins, toffee, oak, and toast. Flavor of pale and sweet malts, sugars, toast, dry, cereal, and barley malts, and some cardboard. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry mouthfeel. A bit weak and thin and disappointing. Not bad, but hasnít held up well.

Out of bomber at euclid hall. Extremely smooth delicious barley wine. Oak really mellows out the high abv.
