Originally reviewed: 9/18/09. 12 oz. bottle poured into my pint glass. Pours a dark amber with an inch’s worth of ivory head on top. Pretty good retention. Leaves some sip rings along the glass. This smells like toasted malts, and some caramel. Pretty sweet smelling.
The mouth is crisp, yet smooth. Moderate amount of carbonation. The flavor is a bit different than the other O’fest beers I’ve sampled this fall. This one is much maltier and full of caramel goodness. This reminds me of a tamed down amber ale. This was pretty good. I like the take on the style here. I’d have this again for sure.

A: Dark copper-amber. Not much of a head. No lacing.
S: Generic sweet, caramel malts. Not particularly strong. No detection of any hop bitterness.
T: Sweet caramel malts. Lightly bready. Not much else, but pleasant.
M: Good carbonation. Solid medium bodied. Even from start to finish.
O: This beer just doesn’t smell and taste good enough to warrant a second glass.

This is a solid beer, very smooth and relaxing, excellent color, wonderffull aroma. Malts tickle the front of my tongue, but exhibits a clean finish. I’ll definatly buy again. WUNDERBAR!

On tap, poured clear reddish orange with white head. Aroma had some slight notes of toffee, caramel and biscuit, touch of earth and spice in there as well. Taste was a bit better, with more pronounced spice, toffee notes in there along with the grass and biscuit, finished fairly clean with a slight lingering spice note.

Bottle @ home. Dark amber appearance with an off white head. Toasty caramel malty, slightly nutty, toffee, lightly grassy-floral hoppy nose. Grassy, caramel, toffee malty lager flavor with some floral notes. A little too sweet and unbalanced for my taste.

Draft at a local. Pours a medium, lasting, light beige head, with some lacing. over a clear dark amber (SRM 10) body....nose is heavy cereal, malts, with light toffee/caramel tones....taste is rich malt and cereal, light nut layers, light toffee/caramel...mouth feel medium, carbonation medium. This is a classic Octoberfest/Marzen. It has a the rich malt/cereal tones one expects, with none of the cloying sweetness that occasionally occurs. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

on tap at papago 9/2/10.
maerzen color with an almondy off white head and decent lacing.
aromas of caramel apples, malt, grass, florals and cider-y spiciness from the hops.
the palate is malty but quite dry. additional flavors other than the ones noted in the aroma include apple candy and honey with a dry spiciness and tingly crispness on the finish.
medium bodied, spritzy and very easy to drink (a few). 7/4/7/4/15

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a small white head. The aroma has toasted malts with mild sweetness and some ripe fruit character. The flavor has toasted malts, caramel notes with some moderately sweet ripe fruits. This comes off as being a bit watered down. Decent, but there are better Octoberfests available.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ngeunit1 (824) - Mountain View, California, USA - MAY 9, 2011
A - Pours a slightly hazy copper-orange color with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head faded down to a thin ring leaving behind some spots of lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts and some floral hops. Touch of dark fruit and some spices in there as well.
T - Starts off with sweet caramel malt and some background honey sweetness. There is just a touch of floral hops and some nuttiness. Through the middle, some stronger hops and a touch of bready malts come through. The finish is a mix of sweet caramel malts and floral hops with some fruit flavor mixed in that lingers nicely.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels really smooth and crisp. The finish has a touch of lingering sweetness.
D - Very drinkable. The flavors are nice and there is a bit of variation on the normal marzen style. The hop presence and fruity additions were very welcomed.

Reviewed from notes. Poured into a pilsner glass.
Pours a moderate copper-bronze color with a white head and some pretty good lacing. The nose is some light caramel and bready plus some earthy, floral, and lightly-spicy hops. Really nice. I appreciate what they’ve done with these beers. While this may be overdone with some styles, I like how there’s a fairly-pronounced hop presence in this brew. Good feel and all around this is a nice brew. Also, doesn’t hurt that the artwork on the label is totally awesome.
