Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Light grassy nose, pale malt. Light lemony yellow color, thin filmy head. Gentle malty sweet initial, grain, light mineral or metallic note, small bitter finish. Thin body. Fairly run-of-the mill stuff. Okay.

BBD 10/11/15. Clear golden pour. Outstanding head volume and lacing, normal retention. Nose of lager yeast, lemongrass and a touch of noble hops. Almost medium body with a texture so smooth it approaches light creamy. Above normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a finish that has a nice burst. The outstanding flavor profile is intense, slightly complex and very well balanced. It begins with a blend of light hop flavor that yields to an ascending biscuit sweetness. This sweetness is, however, overtaken by a mild bitterness in the middle. The bitterness is of the noble hop family in terms of flavor. As the bitterness fades, biscuit comes to the forefront and provides balance. The finish is almost crisp and leaves you with a nice lemongrass flavor over a mild bitterness.

Bottle from The Drinkery Derry. Brilliantly clear light golden color with a smallish bubbly white head. A bit of skunk escaped from the bottle as I popped this open but quickly subsided. Light grainy malt, light fruitiness, light floral hops, and hints of sulfur. Not as clean as this should be for the style.

Clear pale straw pour with a medium white head. So-so lacing. Cracker and faint noble hops in the nose. Light body, active carbonation. Tart apple, malt, decent noble hop bitterness. Mineral and slightly astringent finish. Decent.

Very nice looking. Aroma is hay, leaves, vegetal. Little bit of sulfur. Taste is a bit metallic and bitter. Very authentic tasting in that it tastes a lot like most German pilsners - but those beers had to come all the way from Germany. I would guess that this beer tastes quite a bit different on draft. Seems to be a well-crafted beer, but I probably won’t pick up bottles again.

27th May 2015: on-tap @ Pizza Port, Carlsbad and @ Surfside Tap Room, Oceanside. Drank to cleanse my palate which sipping stronger, darker brews (did not fancy using water). Most likely the best lager/pilsner based beer I had during my month in Southern California, I thought it looked the part: clean, clear and golden with a snow white topping. It was both crisp and dry in nature and although it had the usual weak pilsner aroma it had enough maltiness within the hop profile to stay true to it’s stated German style.

355ml bottle at home, Appellation Wines, Dalry Road, green vegetable aroma with a hint of spice, clear yellow, thin white head, very good lacing, green vegetable with a bit of citrus, dry hop bite in the finish

Pours yellow with a nice foamy head at first that dissipates quickly. Light aroma, worth a decent taste and palate. Less generic beer flavor than a lot of pilsners I’ve had.
