Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo' Series. Our Rye Bock is a pleasant departure from traditional bocks and rye beers. The use of malted rye in beer finds its origins in Bavaria. We here at Left Hand use a bottom fermenting lager yeast, paired with a hop profile of classic German bocks. Our Rye Bock gets a wonderful tangy spiciness from the rye, accompanied by dried cherry aromas in the nose. It is a beer of great flavor with a long, savory finish. The image of a goat has traditionally been the symbol of bock beers. It was customary to feed goats rye to make them potent in the spring. We love the marriage of these two ideas. Will our Rye Bock exacerbate your spring fever? Maybe not, but trying out old folklores never tasted so good.

22oz bomber. Malty aroma with mild spicy & earthy notes. Taste is earthy and spicy rye and/or hops, fruits (cherry, plums), with a spicy and malty finish. Copper colored, excellent clarity. Not a good purchase however at $12 a bomber.

750 mL bottle from Westpark in Richmond. Pours red with a huge frothy head. Decent lacing. Fruity, grainy aroma. Rye comes through nicely on the taste. Texture is heavy and syrupy.

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours an over fizzing hazy brownish copperish orange with weak tan like head. The aroma is nearly mild with sweet date, prune and plum fruitiness, biscuit malts, melanoidin malt, some earthiness, mustiness and light alcohol notes. The taste comes off as a bit thin ushering in fruity esters of plums and dates along with some rich mildly roasty malts and vague, pine maybe, hop bitterness. I get just a faint rye twang in there too. The overall experience doesn’t really come together for me here.

Thanks to maniac for supplying this beer on my way towards 800! A very nice light mahogony body with a thin ivory head. Heavily malted aroma with some light fruit accents. Very nice taste with heavy malts, light caramel, dark fruit accents such as plum. Ending is nice.

Bottle. This bottle was a gusher. Pours a clear amber with a large off-white head that fades quickly. Aroma of spicy rye, a hint of caramel, and spicy yeast. Taste is tangy rye, yeast and caramel. Medium thin mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness. Decent.
