Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo' Series. Our Rye Bock is a pleasant departure from traditional bocks and rye beers. The use of malted rye in beer finds its origins in Bavaria. We here at Left Hand use a bottom fermenting lager yeast, paired with a hop profile of classic German bocks. Our Rye Bock gets a wonderful tangy spiciness from the rye, accompanied by dried cherry aromas in the nose. It is a beer of great flavor with a long, savory finish. The image of a goat has traditionally been the symbol of bock beers. It was customary to feed goats rye to make them potent in the spring. We love the marriage of these two ideas. Will our Rye Bock exacerbate your spring fever? Maybe not, but trying out old folklores never tasted so good.

Caged/corked. Pours with a ruggedly reddish brown color and just a fizzle of head. The aroma is mildly medicinal, but quite restrained. Interesting drink here ... a broad blend of stuff going on here, from a easy going roast, a teaser of dark fruit, and a kiss of chocolate in the finish. Very tasty brew and exceptionally well assembled at 7.7%! (#3422, 4/15/2008)

This beer poured a nice amber color from a 22 ounce bottle with a one finger off white head that disapated into lingering lacing. The aroma was of hops and a bit malty. The flavor was nicely hoppy with a slight caramel finish. I like this beer a lot.

This beer poured an orangey amber with a white head. It smelled like soy sauce and spices. This beer was lightly carbonated. My first impression was a sweet malty flavor accompanied my spicy rye. It was medium-bodied, and pretty enjoyable. I would serve this beer with poultry, something with earthy flavors.

Poured a brownish color with full head, tons of carbonation. Aroma was chocolate and bread and was roastedness. Flavor was much the same rye didn’t come out till the finish. Good.

Slightly hazy dark copper body with a huge frothy off-white head. Sweet spicy, toast and grain aroma with some light breadiness. Dry rye flavor with some toast and grain and noticable breadiness. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

750 ml cork and caged bottle. Pours a muddy brown with a large foamy off white head. Aroma of chocoalte, must and slightly bit of sweetness. Medium bodied with light carboantion. Flavor of chocloate mats, slight rye bread notes that finishes sweet at first and then dry. The rye needs to be stepped in this if Left Hand wants to start the title of this ber with the word rye.

750 mL bottle, corked and caged, at freaking $10.50 each. Potent aroma of delicious, slightly sweet lager spice, some rye bread showing along with notes from other lager styles - a touch of Kellerbier, and some fantastic, strong notes of a Smoked. That yeast is fantastic. Deep, muddy ruddy pour with a spoonable, superdense, rocky beige head. Taste is peppery (actual white pepper, not heat), a nice spicy yeast with dry bready notes and muddied smoke tones. Rye adds a nice component to the profile here, though I’m not sure I’ve ever gone for the slight uptick in harshness I usually attribute to specialty grains. I like the dark, earthy, soily quality, akin to the dirt you’d cave-age cheese on. A warming medium body and dry aftertaste, smooth caramel throughout, and nice bockish berry in the highlights. A very good, classy brew, but not at all earth-shaking and nowhere near the asking price.
