Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo' Series. Our Rye Bock is a pleasant departure from traditional bocks and rye beers. The use of malted rye in beer finds its origins in Bavaria. We here at Left Hand use a bottom fermenting lager yeast, paired with a hop profile of classic German bocks. Our Rye Bock gets a wonderful tangy spiciness from the rye, accompanied by dried cherry aromas in the nose. It is a beer of great flavor with a long, savory finish. The image of a goat has traditionally been the symbol of bock beers. It was customary to feed goats rye to make them potent in the spring. We love the marriage of these two ideas. Will our Rye Bock exacerbate your spring fever? Maybe not, but trying out old folklores never tasted so good.

Cloudy red/brown, decent sized tan head that doesn’t last long. Nice aroma--chocolate/carob overlaying dense rye bread. Wonderful flavor--like a dense 12 grain bread with chocolatey notes and some notable hop bitterness balancing things out.

Frothy off-white head over a murky, chestnut colored body. Toasty malt aroma, peppery. Lightly sweet with supportive but subdued hops as you would look for in a good Bock. Medium bodied with a smooth delivery.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy brownish color with a slight off-white head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits and caramel. The flavor found rye, dark fruits, and a sweet fresh cherry bread background. Full bodied. Excellent drinker. Thanks to Springslicker for sharing this at the Tennessee Tasting!

Bottle. Pours somewhat hazy amber with small white head. The aroma is grain, zest, and biscuit. The flavor is rye, caramel, burnt sugar, and just a bit of alcohol in the aftertaste. Robust.

Copper with a faint head. Big aroma of, well, rye. And maybe some caramel, too. Full bodied and smooth. Bready and toasty, with notes of rye, pepper, caramel, with a clean crisp finish. Thanks to Springslicker for sharing.

Pours a hazy golden amber color. Aromas of dark malts, yeasty notes, fruit, and alcohol. Flavor is alcoholic fruit and spice with a bittersweet finish. Good beer, just not something I would have often.

From a 750 ml. green bottle with a blurb about the bock on the side of the bottle and no freshness date for this retired beer. Made a very good appearance, poured a hazy milk chocolate brown with a large creamy pale tan head with good retention and a fair amount of sticking. Had a very rye malt aroma with traces of dark ripe fruits, a spicy herbal hoppiness, an underlining breadiness and whiffs of smoky, sweet alcohol. Good carbonation and a smooth full bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Taste at first was a big rye maltiness, followed by a herbal hoppiness and a nutty yeastiness and a dry malty finish.

750ml bottle. Sugary, toasty malt aroma, plenty of caramel and lightly roasty, even a bit smoky with notes of earth, spice, black bread and very faint dried fruits. Medium-dark copper brown color, lightly hazy with ruddy highlights and a lasting, creamy, fine head. Flavor profile is malty and sweet, more caramel sugars to be found, and has a light-moderate amount of bitterness throughout, some background herbal lemon-spice flavors from the rye and finishes fairly long and balanced along with fading hints of raisin, banana and nut. Mouthfeel is clean and lively, body is medium-full. Unique and certainly one of the better Bocks one might run across.
