| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2006 Caramel-colored with a heavy haze & brown low-lights, a heavy yeast sediment & a tan head that lasts with creaminess in a small cap. Aromas of sweet malts with an almost lemony backdrop amidst a show of wheat or rye. Effervescence adds to creaminess with a sweet, caramel flavor. A sour finish rears but is not overwhelming.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 22, 2005 Bottle. Pours a hazy brown with a huge creamy off-white head that was lasting and produced good lacing. Good malty and spice aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture. Full complex malt, grain and spice flavor with a small bitter finish. I love rye presented well in a brew. Cornfield (4928), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2005 This pours a dark, murky chestnut color with a thick, dense tan head. The aroma is a sweet caramel malt with peppery spices and nutty bitterness. Pretty light, slightly oily, and highly carbonated for a doppelbock. The flavor is sweet - warm, fresh bread dough, caramel, rye (complete with caroway seeds), pepper, and a touch of light fruits. It’s got a sweet finish accompanied by an earthy bitterness. Interesting drink.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Muddy brown with a creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet, spicey, malty, caramel, nuts, and syrup. Suprisingly I was able to taste rye in this one. Creamy with a solid malt body. A bit thin for the style, but not watery. Flavor is rye, bread, cookie dough, and fairly sweet. Incrediably smooth. The rye adds a slight bitteness that adds some balance to the overall sweetness. Not like any other doppelbock I have had. Again the rye adds a unique taste to this bad boy. jazz88 (2236), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 2, 2005 Bottle. A hazy and muddy brown color with a rich foamy tan head. A spiced carmal aroma with a chewy round caramel, banana bread, earthy and spiced flavor. Sweet but more balanced than many because of the rye. fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2005 Doubting that a celebratory beer such as this has been brewed twice leads me to believe that this is around a year old. Unsure whether that would make any change positive, negative or negligeable. As it stands I generally liked it, but kept having a sensation akin to two different beers that I might enjoy quite a bit seperately having been mixed to a lesser affect. Nice malt here - interesting and plesant bitterness there, but couldn’t wrap myself around the whole. Probably just me and being ornery. Have much admired what bits and pieces I’ve managed to pick up from these guys over the years. Not sure who’s brewing and nkow there’s been merging or whatever with Left Hand, etc. but did have the pleasure of visiting what WAS the brewery roughly a decade ago. Time flies when you’re drinking good beer.
