Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2008 750 bottle...pours a cloudy brown with a thick beige head...very bready aroma + sweet malts...the flavors are penetrated with rye (yum)...a little caramel detected and a little smokiness...alcohol well hidden.....an easy tasty drinker...nice body, a little creaminess to it...a zinginess mid-palate and a bit of hop on the finish...a little nutty too KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 28, 2008 Cloudy darkamber with a medium off white head. Sweet malty aroma with caramel notes. Sweet flavour with caramel, toasted malt and mild hoppy notes. Finished bitter. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 25, 2008 pours amber with tan head.
Aroma is malty, rye and caramel with light floral hops. Yeasty nose - vegetable, grassy -.
Taste is similar to aroma. Malty light roasted and caramel. Rye with light hoppy finish, giving the beer a nice velvety mouthfeel.. Everything comes together with the malts and hops for a well balanced beer. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Dec 23, 2008 Style and Glass: Dunkler Bock, Mug; Snifter
ABV, Volume & Calories: 7.7% in 25.36 fl oz. estimated at 400 C
Purchased at: Canal’s Lawrenceville, NJ for $2.79 (down from $14 ea — I picked up 6 for $15 — madmen there, and they better stay nutso)
Aroma: very nice, inviting, flowery, rye, bready, wheaty, grassy, meadow, rain.
Visuals: interesting label, like an aged iced tea, deep murky brown, cloudy, thick off white head, sticky lace.
Taste: very well balanced, brown ale, sage, onions, rye, roses, tea, chai, some hops, medium strength.
Palate: very nice, smooth oily texture, medium, light, tasty finish.
Overall: A summery brew, refreshing, very enjoyable. A repeat, 6x at least. Maybe my favorite bock so far. Amazing value — makes me wonder why the run on the price. well crafted. Fruity aroma of caramel and rye bread with notes of dried fruits,
Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel and rye bread with notes of dried fruits.
Sweet and fruity finish. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Nov 28, 2008 Pour is a dark brown with a very large tan head. Aroma is of roasted nuts and obvious rye malt. Flavor is again mostly the rye but I also get a molasses and some dark fruit sweetness. A damn expensive beer for what it is but i was glad to get it on sale to give it a try. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Nov 19, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. First of their "Big Mo" series I’ve tried. Nothing overwhelming here, but some pleasant warming awesomeness comes along with it. The rye does add a little spice kick to the sweetness.
