Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo' Series. Our Rye Bock is a pleasant departure from traditional bocks and rye beers. The use of malted rye in beer finds its origins in Bavaria. We here at Left Hand use a bottom fermenting lager yeast, paired with a hop profile of classic German bocks. Our Rye Bock gets a wonderful tangy spiciness from the rye, accompanied by dried cherry aromas in the nose. It is a beer of great flavor with a long, savory finish. The image of a goat has traditionally been the symbol of bock beers. It was customary to feed goats rye to make them potent in the spring. We love the marriage of these two ideas. Will our Rye Bock exacerbate your spring fever? Maybe not, but trying out old folklores never tasted so good.

Bottled. Pours out in a hazy brownish copper colour with a roch tan coloured foam. Malty aroma of milky chocolate, nuts, dark bread, neutral yeast with hints of dark syrup. medium to full-bodied with notes of dark bread, cereals, milky chocolate and neutral yeast. Smooth but a bit sticky mouthfeel. Malty and slightly warming finish of caramel, syrup, dark bread, almonds and spices.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of rye bread, cereal and milk chocolate, light notes of herbs and dough for the hops and yeast, with a hint of toffee. Head is frothy, off-white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. The color is clear (until you get to the sediments) copper. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finish is moderately bittersweet and lightly acidic. Palate is medium, between oily and creamy, has a lively carbonation and finishes moderately astringent. A little too astringent in the finish for a Dunkler Bock in my opinion, but other than that a pretty good beer

2008 Bottling. Aroma is a sweet malty scent. Color is a deep amber with very active carbonation and a very tall thick head that just keeps growing. Taste is malty and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down crisp. Finish comes in malty, roasted and a little nutty then a bold bitterness rolls though. After taste is more bitterness. Not bad but the bitterness overpowers the malt making it a bit unbalanced.

Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear copper, large soapy off-white head. Dusty and earthy pototoe malt aroma, some caramel and tofee notes, could not pick out any rye. Medium bodied and smooth. Nicely balanced.

750 mL bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine and Liquor. Pours dark brown with an average, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, cookie), light hops (grass), average yeast (dough, sweat) with notes of apple, pear, and toffee. Medium bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Not too bad for a rye bock. You can definitely taste and smell the rye! Appears dark amber, slightly cloudy with a nice light brown head.

this is a great beer with high caramel flavor, not too bad on the hops but the rest give a high content of flavor.
