Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo' Series. Our Rye Bock is a pleasant departure from traditional bocks and rye beers. The use of malted rye in beer finds its origins in Bavaria. We here at Left Hand use a bottom fermenting lager yeast, paired with a hop profile of classic German bocks. Our Rye Bock gets a wonderful tangy spiciness from the rye, accompanied by dried cherry aromas in the nose. It is a beer of great flavor with a long, savory finish. The image of a goat has traditionally been the symbol of bock beers. It was customary to feed goats rye to make them potent in the spring. We love the marriage of these two ideas. Will our Rye Bock exacerbate your spring fever? Maybe not, but trying out old folklores never tasted so good.

Caged/corked. Pours with a ruggedly reddish brown color and just a fizzle of head. The aroma is mildly medicinal, but quite restrained. Interesting drink here ... a broad blend of stuff going on here, from a easy going roast, a teaser of dark fruit, and a kiss of chocolate in the finish. Very tasty brew and exceptionally well assembled at 7.7%! (#3422, 4/15/2008)

750 mL bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine and Liquor. Pours dark brown with an average, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, cookie), light hops (grass), average yeast (dough, sweat) with notes of apple, pear, and toffee. Medium bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Not too bad for a rye bock. You can definitely taste and smell the rye! Appears dark amber, slightly cloudy with a nice light brown head.

this is a great beer with high caramel flavor, not too bad on the hops but the rest give a high content of flavor.

The aroma is malty with what I think is rye and earthy nots and incense. The appearance is brown with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Interesting but thats all.
