Commercial Description:
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

coppery color with almost no haze. head settles to thin veil after a minute. looks about like an ESB should. Apple and graham cracker aroma. Creamy smooth mouthfeel - could be grittier. Crisp grains and hops jump out first moderate bitterness with tart mineral finish. Well balanced consistent product. retains thin veil of head throuout. One of my favorite ESB’s.

12 oz bottle. Pours copper in colour, with fairly thin head. Aroma is sweet, like caramel. Taste is also lightly sweet, with mild bitter hoppy finish. Very enjoyable!

Copper color, white foam. The aroma is bread and butter, floral hops, caramel. Decent. The flavor is pine and citrus hops, caramel, bread and butter again. Pretty good overall. Piney hops finish. Medium mouthfeel. Not great by any measure, but decent and enjoyable.

Serving: Draft. Appearance: Deep copper color with a foamy, off-white head. Aroma: A malty "bitter" nose with a hint of sourness and butter in there. Flavor: Malty at first with a touch of caramel. This is replaced with a decent back bitterness that lingers on the tongue. Palate: Medium-high, aggressive carbonation with a medium, dry mouthfeel and a medium-short, bitter, then clean finish. Overall: An okay ESB that is just a bit short in the flavor and palate departments. Nothing special here.

Clear amber of color with an off white head. An aroma of malt, caramel, metallic and weak hops. A flavor of caramel, toffee, metallic and weak hops.

Aroma is of malts and yeast. Flavor is malts, almost tastes like an October fest. Little weak on the finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep golden amber-brown with an off-white head. Sweetish, malty aroma with hops in the background. Flavour is malty and feels rather mild. Remote milky notes. Dry finish. Lingering malty notes. Overall an okay beer, but a bit boring. 26-09-09.

Pours a clear amber from the 12oz. bottle served at Redlight Redlight (Orlando, FL): Unimpressive. A little too hoppy for an ESB, and though I love hops, it’s just not true to the style. Malted sweetness, florals, bitter finish, lemon-y, light molasses, complex. Drinkability: Bland and forgettable. Rebuy: Probably not. #149 on 17102009, DG.
