3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Light aroma of hops. Pours a nice honey color with little head and zero lacing. A bit sweet and flat with the right amount of hops and malts. A little too thin for my liking - might be better as a more medium-bodied brew. Palate leaves a touch of bitterness in the back of the mouth but is largely uninspiring. Decent overall - very drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Amber body, small white head. Aroma light on the hops. Flavor is rather thin bodied, with a good deal of hoppy bitterness backed by some caramely malts. Decent quaffer.

2.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Copper in color. Almost no aroma and not much carbonation. Smooth in flavor. A slight bread taste, some malt and grain flavor. Creamy and very drinkable but it doesn’t stay with you very long. Some hop flavor at the end. It was good but nothing I’m going to seek out in the future.

On tap at Williams Uptown Peanut Bar in Minneapolis. Despite some fairly high beer prices at Williams, I’ll have to say that at least A) the bartender serving us last night volunteered to give us free samples of anything to help us make our ordering decisions and B) you can order a 10 oz mug which enables you to drink and rate a beer at a lower cost, even if you are paying a higher cost per oz. Had I not had a sample of the Sawtooth, I very well may have ordered one and been really disappointed. Not sure if this has been sitting in the lines for awhile, but it was unbalanced and borderline putrid. Made me wince. Malty and one dimensional aroma; somewhat sweet. Mostly flat appearance. No visible carbonation and a clear copper in color. Not recommended.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear, light copper toned body, super-mega slow carbonation bubbles rise every now and then. Capping it is a small compact fluff of white sand and the lacing coats in oily, spotty sheeting.
Aroma is quite empty but clean with a very subdued toasted malt and nuttyness with faint cardboard notes.
Flavors are nearly as empty, plain tasting dryish sweet malt with a light dusty cardboard-like hopping. Somewhat creamy though and fairly smooth across the palate; very barely toasty in some areas.
Feel is creamy and smooth with a lesser medium body with some drying light grainyness and cardboard flakeyness.
Fairly boring but drinkable enough due to its creamy smoothness and slippery soft carbonation. Passable in most regards though; this ESB just doesn’t have anything special about it.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours pretty orange with decent white head, some surface pond-scumming doesn’t quite materialize into lacing. Blind tasting, I guessed this was an American Pale. Nice clean body and hop-malt finish. Tasty treat.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle. Near-opaque hazy amber, small head...fruity-tangy sweet nose...bland initial flavor, bit of woodiness develops, apricot and a fair amount of acidity...late metallic character and watery body undo it.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
One of the best American ESB’s! Intense floral hoppiness, yet balanced with biterness to distinguish it from a pale ale. Hard water is evident, nice on the tongue. Classic ESB finish showing strong maltiness and earthy minerals.

Bottle (HWC): Rich amber color with just a wisp of foam. Aroma is very light and malt sweet. Flavor is light and malty with a light citrus hoppiness and a lingering dry finish. Palate is smooth, but light.
