Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Strange aroma. Clear golden color. Almost zero head even with an aggressive pour. Tastes more like an amber than a bitter to me. Weak malty backbone. Unoffensive and drinkable but overall, very very average. After the 6er is gone, this won’t be purchased by me ever again. Especially at $8.49(25% mrgn). What a rip off for a mediocre beer.

Lots of hops for a bitter. Aroma of a fruity ipa. Dark red color. Taste of bitter hops, some fruit as well. I am surprised to see this classified as a bitter. While drinking it I was sure it was a pale ale.

2005 bottle from Julios consumed 5/28/2005 at OldGrowth’s BBQ. Crystal clear pour, per usual from these guys, with a small light beige head, not long retained, with no lacing. Color is auburn-amber. Light notes of cream and hints of dry bitter hops in the nose, no real flavor, just earthy-like dryness and some fruity yeast notes. Flavor is initially lightly sweet, with some base malts and then a hops bitterness, dry and boring, with no flavor other than a passing, dry citrus. Hard, filtered mouthfeel, fizzy, uneven, forced carbonation, little complexity, bit thin on the end, with a medium-light body overall.

Tasted in Toronto. Obtained in Boulder Colorado. 650ml, tasted in dimpled mug. Appearance is deep rust colour, almost ruby. Very little head after the initial pour. Aroma has elements of caramel sweetness, butter toffee flowered hoppiness. Flavour is close, but does not live up to the aroma. Starts off like a butter toffee candy, but doesn’t finish as rich. Sort of a mellow subtle sweetness with a watery backing.

Fairly dark amber with a small, white head. Aroma is mostly malty with some caramel with a floral note. Flavor does have a fair amount of bitterness; also floral taste; aftertaste is "flat" and just sort of plain. A little thin but probably decent for the style.

Overall, Im not a big Ale fan altogether. This one wasnt to bad, I have had more bitter ones in the past. The name is bascially what got me to purchase, luckily the sawtooth didnt cut me up inside.

Wispy creamy head on top, beautiful crystal clear deep amber below. Aroma is mild, slightly malty and sweet. Crisp and effervescent in the mouth, with well balanced but mild flavors. Mildly bitter, gets better as it approaches cellar temp. Definitely a good beer to start the night with before moving on to something more flavorful.

nice red color thin head dissipates quickly leaving only a thin ring around the glass. like zero lacing. has a lightly roasted aroma and some hops. there isn’t much going on in the flavor. kind of thin with a little hops after taste. i could see my self drinking this while grilling. good out door lawnmowing beer.
