WesKBob (317), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA May 31, 2008 A very smooth drink with sweet malt and a hint of honey. Not too hoppy, and a very clean finish. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 31, 2008 (Probably drinking too cold.) Copper with good, foamy beige head / Light nose of malt and bread / Light body, with mellow malts and dry hops imparting heft and creaminess to body and finish / Flavors of burnt sugar and toasted, bready, dry hops / Very nice. A session beer if there ever was one. lagomswedish (213), Umeå, Sweden May 30, 2008 Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours an attractive copper colour with decent US aromas. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the nose, falling quite flat in the middle. However a satisfyingly long medium bitter finish lifts the score, and the slightly stale bready malt character is evident in both the aroma and taste. Very drinkable stuff. Gromit (460), Port Orchard, Washington, USA May 30, 2008 Wow. What a simply average beer. It’s not bad, it’s just that it’s not that good.
Amber with a small head that goes away quickly, decent aroma with some floral bittering hops. Flavor is typical ESB -- better by far than Redhook, but still not great. Admittedly, I might have had an oxidized bottle as it’s got a hint of bandaid. I’ll revisit this if I get a better one later. But I gotta say, I’m far from impressed. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle, Kegs & Barrels, McKinney, TX.
Pours a deep clear amber, off-white head with good retention, slight lacing on glass....Aroma has a slight burst of hoppy grapefruit and dark fruit, malt. Flavor is light sweet, nice non-overpowering hoppy grapefruit, malt, with very slight bitter in the end. Palate is medium carbonation, medium mouthfeel.......pretty good stuff!!!! carlsbaad (4), Nashville, Tennessee, USA does not count May 28, 2008 Now these folks know how to brew a bitter. First sip and I thought I was back in the Midlands holding a real pint of beer. Great balance between the hops and malt that cleanses the palate on every sip. Great deep bronze color and tan head that laces to the bottom. I’ll keep some of this around. I’d love to find it on tap somewhere in Nashville. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 23, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, amber body with a medium-sized, white head that lefts generous layers of lacing on the way down.
Smell: Dry, crumbly, toasted biscuits seasoned with a good dose of spices. Faroff notes of dried citrus rind and creme caramel.
Taste: Toasted biscuit maltiness with a restrained caramel sweetness. Fairly spicy hop character, maybe a hint of citrus, too. Medium bitterness is quite clean. Lingering hoppiness and hint of breadcrusts.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Fine, flavorful ESB from Left Hand. bconger (74), Birmingham, Alabama, USA May 22, 2008 Bottle. Dark caramel pour with a tan, moderately thick head with large bubbles and decent lacing. Aromas of caramel, toast, milk chocolate, roasty malt, and hops. Strong flavors of caramel and toast up front that lead to a bitter, hoppy finish. Great mouthfeel - nice combination of carbonation and smoothness. I like this ale.
