Commercial Description:
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Draft at the Library in Norman, OK... Pours a big white fluffy head, mostly lasting... Notes of caramel with a hop-back on the finish of the palate... Nice, solid body... Good session beer...

Aroma is slightly sweet and floral, very English. Yeah, looks great, copper colored with a nice little puffy white head that laces nicely. Flavor is nicely balanced. Malty with a distinct bitter finish. Medium bodied. I mean, as far as ESB’s go, pretty good, but not the type of beer I’ll ever crave.

A little watery and thin. Lightly hopped. Not good at all when cold, attractive malt flavor begins to show when warm, but just not quite enough ooomph for me.

Pours a copper/caramel color with a nice white head. Musty aroma on first pour, but as the beer warmed slightly, the floral hop notes became more pronounced and wonderful. Tasty bitterness rolling across my palate. Bitterness was pleasant and not overdone. I enjoyed this beer tremendously and was shocked to see it scoring so poorly in here. This is a complex brew that I thought was fabulous.

Had on tap. Poured a pretty copper color, nice cream head. Taste was pretty much caramel and hops. Too much hops for my liking...But an okay beer.

Bottled on 12.06.06. Pours slightly hazy orange, white head. Aroma is earth, caramel, hops, slight tomato and slight wet barn yard smell. Flavor is caramel, earth, hops, malt, wet barnyard.

355ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki , American Week 2007). Usual US tasty sweet bitter smell - cascade meets candifloss. Taste has a harsh quality, almost metallic that spoils the rich bitterness. Not worthy of the "ESB" moniker. Do I taste saccharin? Some strawberry sweetness - and that’s not a positive thing in this context.
