Commercial Description:
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Copper in color. Almost no aroma and not much carbonation. Smooth in flavor. A slight bread taste, some malt and grain flavor. Creamy and very drinkable but it doesn’t stay with you very long. Some hop flavor at the end. It was good but nothing I’m going to seek out in the future.

Bottled on 10 21 03 drank on 03 13 04. Clear orange copper color with an almost non-existant white head. Rich malty aroma with hints of caramel and bread. Medium bodied, starts and ends lightly sweet and then gets dry.

Aroma is dull, stale bread. Palate is watery, but fills the mouth satisfactorily. Flavor is raw potato with weak caramel malt. Very earthy taste.

Bottle (355 ml) bought at Systembolaget. Deep clear amber, medium fluffy off-white head. Caramelly and slightly earthy malt aroma, with floral and citric hops. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lingering bitterness. A good try at an English style ale, but rather a Special Bitter than an ESB.

12 ounce bottle from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. Pours a clear bronze color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, green apple and citrus hops. Taste is leafy citrus hops, toasted malts and light grain. Medium bodied with a smooth, creamy feel.

Taster - 99 Bottles - Federal Way, WA.
Aroma – Light malt no real hops aroma
Appearance – Copper, clear with a light head
Flavor – Light bitter with mild malts and light hops
Palate – Crisp, light a very mild ESB
Overall –Sorry missed the ESB boat. This was very mild to taste neded more bittering hops or time in the tanks with hops in them. Too fast to produce.

This would be a decent session ale, but nothing in it really stands out and the body was a bit thin. Started with some lightly caramel malt, but some hops came in and balanced it out.
