Poured a copper color with a one finger head that has decent retention but not a lot of lacing. Smells malty with a bit of caramel and sweet fruits. Taste is malty up front with a strong caramel flavor with some fruit that turns into a nice bitter finish that balances out the initial sweetness very nicely. Overall a pretty enjoyable ESB.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2005 Strange aroma. Clear golden color. Almost zero head even with an aggressive pour. Tastes more like an amber than a bitter to me. Weak malty backbone. Unoffensive and drinkable but overall, very very average. After the 6er is gone, this won’t be purchased by me ever again. Especially at $8.49(25% mrgn). What a rip off for a mediocre beer. bluemeow76 (693), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA

Appearance: Deep copper color with a foamy, off-white head.
Aroma: A malty "bitter" nose with a hint of sourness and butter in there.
Flavor: Malty at first with a touch of caramel. This is replaced with a decent back bitterness that lingers on the tongue.
Palate: Medium-high, aggressive carbonation with a medium, dry mouthfeel and a medium-short, bitter, then clean finish.
Overall: An okay ESB that is just a bit short in the flavor and palate departments. Nothing special here. wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 6, 2005 Tasted in Toronto. Obtained in Boulder Colorado. 650ml, tasted in dimpled mug. Appearance is deep rust colour, almost ruby. Very little head after the initial pour. Aroma has elements of caramel sweetness, butter toffee flowered hoppiness. Flavour is close, but does not live up to the aroma. Starts off like a butter toffee candy, but doesn’t finish as rich. Sort of a mellow subtle sweetness with a watery backing.
