Commercial Description:
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Bottled. Clear orange color, medium head. Aroma of some hop, hit of orange, caramel. Dry grassy bitter taste. Quite boring.

From total wine. Amber pour. fluffy head. Aroma is malt and hops, nothing interesting. Flavor is unpleasantly bitter with some grainy malts too. Not so great.

On tap at Max & Joe’s Left Hand tasting party. Pours a soft medium amber with a medium-sized off white head. Caramel aroma. Has a thin body with a metallic bite. Mild bitterness with an interesting malty toasted taste. Mild in the brittish style. Quick finish.

Strong molasses malts, with light chocolate malts, some light hops and a tangy butter, brown sugar aroma. Pour is a frothy, off-white head that goes away completely covering a light amber body. Taste is malty and a bit nutty upfront with some light hop bitterness in the finish. Watery mouthfeel, fizzy carbonation.

Amber, small bubbly head. Sweet floral toffee aroma. Fruity but a bit thin flavour of peaches and toffee with vague floral aftertaste. Round light body.

Lots of hops for a bitter. Aroma of a fruity ipa. Dark red color. Taste of bitter hops, some fruit as well. I am surprised to see this classified as a bitter. While drinking it I was sure it was a pale ale.

Not too bitter, but has a nice strong hops presence. Maple syrup colored with a medium thick off-white head. Based on recommendations from other drinkers I let it warm up a little before trying and I was glad I did. Clean flavored with citrusy aftertaste. I have enjoyed all of Left Hand’s offerings so far (the Deep Cover and JuJu Ginger are good too) and look forward to the next.
