Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

A - Pours a burnt orange. 2 finger head. Descent retention. Slight lacing S - Clean citrus. Sharp caramel malt. Butterscotch. T - Citrus hops blend into a toasted caramel/toffee malt. Hints of amaretto, pecan, tea, and spicy floral hops. The finish is bitter and slightly spicy. M - Medium. Almost has a creaminess to it. This is a fantastic beer. It has great balance with a great malt profile. The hops compliment the beer very well. Highly recommended. Serving type: bottle 09-29-2010

Sawtooth nitro bottle. Pours copper with a thin, creamy white head. Aromas of sweet caramel and earthy hops. Flavors are caramel, brown sugar, herbal tones and mild, earthy hops. Rather thin and watery, but somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Disappointing for a Left Hand product.

Nothing really stands out about this beer at all. Pours a light brown with weak aroma. Drinkable.

Bottle, nitro. Pours a clearish amber with a mostly lasting foamy light beige head. Earthy aroma, some caramel. Taste is caramel sweetness, earthy, slight hints of bitter hops on the finish. Minimal carbonation, watery to oily mouthfeel.

Nitro bottle. Pours with a cascade and thick off white head and hazy amber color. Floral and grassy aroma. The nitro gives it a slick mouthfeel and takes the edge of the bitterness. Nice balance with the hops and malt with almost a woody flavor. Nice bitter.

Bottle. Poured a clear amber. Minimal, white head. Light toffee. Soft fruit. A little spicy graininess. Taste is light sweet. Some dryness. Palate has a thin mineral feel. Finishes dry, with some toffee sweetness. .

Sawtooth Nitro. Pours amber red with a thick white head. Head retention is great. AROMA: malty, caramel, slight bitter note, crisp and herbal hops. TASTE: malty, caramel, hop bitterness, light spice, light peppercorn, slight molasses, creamy and slightly metallic. AFTER TASTE: peppercorn, spice, hop/malt bitterness and slight molasses with an oily light watery feel. Was looking forward to this brew for quite some time but ended up being a bit of a letdown. Maybe the Milk Stout Nitro will help retain my enthusiasm for the Nitro series from Left hand.

Neutral malt aromas on an amber pour with a nice sweetness and smooth mouth feel with a carbonated after bite. Malty goodness!

Left Hand definitely has some better brews than this, but this still isn’t bad at all. Worth a try at the very least.
