COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Bottle. Pours clear reddish amber with thin head. Aroma is caramel malt with a bit of earthiness. Taste is neither overly sweet or bitter; flavors similar to the aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Overall, just OK.

Tap@the ginger man, nyc. Amber color with creamy head. Taste is malty and it has a sometime lasting aftertaste. Flavors of malt, citrus, oak. A bit waterish.

A mid amber brown coloured beer with a weak off white head. A light fruity aroma, orange and peach, then a caramel, biscuity malt aroma comes through. Dry mouthfeel. A mildly bitter taste to start, hoppy, with citrus and stone fruits mixing with a smoother, slightly sweeter, caramel and biscuity malt flavour. The finish is hop led, but the malt comes through later making for a well balanced ending.

12 oz pour from refrigerated bottle into pint glass. Only a hint a head. Moderately opaque and brown in color. Nose is malty and dry. Mouthfeel is a little thin and very dry. Taste is very bitter, fairly malty. Kind of nutty. Like a really bitter brown ale. Super bitter. A little metallicy.

Tap at Kalahana. Malty, caramel, light hoppiness, light citrus, biscuity. Nice enough but low on interest. Not much aroma at all.

Pours clear, pale copper with a bit of yeasty nose. Toffee and a bit of liquorice from malt against moderate hop bitterness. Not a bad beer but not the best ESB I’ve had.

Bottle from Mitsuya’s. Poured into an English tulip. Clear amber with a nice light tan head. Aromas of toffee, caramel and apricot-like fruit. Slight floral hops as well. Taste is more of the same. Well-balanced. Smooth and crisp finish.

This beer was ok, but I’m just not a big fan of extra bitters, so trying to be unbiased here. Taste is very bitter..maybe even moreso than a barelywine. Flavors of caramel and hops on steroids. Very hoppy like a double IPA, but with half the alcohol content. Has a amber brown color. A better than average all around beer, but not one of my favorites in the Left Hand family.
