COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Nitro bottle had nice cooper color with quickly evaporating tan head. Malt flavor with hops in the background. Taste is well rounded and easy drinking ale.

Pours copper w/ small head retention. Malty aroma w/ caramel notes. Little hop aroma and little hop taste on the palate. Fruity ale esters coming through on the finish. Overall, I could use more bittering hop framework in the structure.

Nitro pour from draft, creamy head and burnt orange color. Maltiness prevails over hops. Very drinkable beer smooth but not much taste for my palette. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I was so disappointed by this beer. I was expected that it will feels amazing, but it just wasn’t. In aroma there are some hops and hard candy notes. Color is copper, perfectly clear with small head. In taste mostly high quality bitterness, quite small and short but hyper plain and smooth. And that’s all. There is nothing else going on in this beer unfortunately.

****NITRO CAN * * * * Pours mostly clear orange, big cascading nitro head falls to finger thick creamy off white head with nice lacing. Aroma floral hops, bready malt, slight citrus and caramel malt. Taste slightly bitter floral and citrus hop up front, fresh dough and slight sweet caramel mid mouth, creamy and hoppy on the finish. Mouthfeel creamy, medium body and carbonation, finish on the dry side. Overall good beer, nitro adds complexity and pleasant mouth feel, well balanced.

pours copper and looks like air is being blown into the glass when its poured. white head with minimal lacing. aroma is bready with floral hops. just as the description says, the flavor goes from a floral hoppy to malty as it warms. medium body and the mouth feel is super creamy. finishes dry and progresses into a slight bitterness. I have had the sawtooth and now the sawtooth nitro, and I prefer the nitro by far.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 8/26/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of orange zest, pear, apple, caramel, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of orange zest, pear, apple, caramel, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, light pine, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes or orange zest, pear, apple, caramel, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, light pine, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good ESB style. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Nitro bottle at Buffalo Wild Wings (Frederick, MD) hard poured into pint glass, ambery-copper color with slow mowing nitro bubbles. Aroma of malt and faint earthy/herbal hops. Taste added some nuttiness. Medium-light body, low carb (nitro), creamy with minimal malty bitter finish. First nitro ESB I’ve had; nice texture, balanced and pleasant.

Transfer from BA review on 8-9-12 - Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a hazy amber/ brownish color with a one finger head. The head did not have great retention and fades to give only a light amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is of some sweet caramel mixed with bitter earthy and herbal hop aromas and a strong malty base. Taste – The taste has a nice malty backbone throughout; biscuit and bready in nature. This malty backbone starts out with a light amount of the caramel that was detected in the nose. Soon however the bitter comes to the tongue in the form of more earthy and herbal hop tastes. Toward the end a lighter citrus hop is also detected. While overall the hop tastes are light, they meld very well with the malty flavors and create overall a very smooth and refreshing flavor profile. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thicker and more smooth then I would have anticipated at 5.3 % abv. This coupled with a slightly lower than average carbonation level creates a very easy drinking brew. Overall – A quite delicious, easy drinking, and smooth beer. Very nice for the style.
