COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

12 ounce bottle- poured out a nice honey gold with a thin white head. Aroma was mildly floral. Taste was very subtle with sweet clover. Thin palate. Would be a nice hot weather thirst quencer, other than that, there isn’t much there.

Bottle. Poured semi-cloudy amber with white head. Good carbonation. Flavor is not very gripping but still pleasant. Muted toffee and maltiness -- very smooth. Good but not memorable.

Pours a clear copper color with a light tan head from a nitro bottle. Smooth Creamy texture. Aromas of toffee and some malt sweetness. Taste the same bitterness in the finish. Very nice as usual from Left Hand.

ARH (706) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 20, 2015
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2015 12 oz bottle poured into a cup. A mellow tropical aroma kicks things off but fades into a bread and light toffee mix with some faint berry note. It’s a dark, clear copper orange color with a tan, thick soapy head that has moderate retention and lace. The taste is a balanced medium bitter and sweet. The beer is lightly syrupy with a smooth foam carbonation. The medium light body is, like the aroma, bready with a light caramel and light citrus touch. The finish is a waxy citrus character that cleans up nicely.

Nitro version. Pours amber with thick creamy head. Pleasant lingering hoppiness over sweet maltiness. Quite pleasant, but I can’t figure out if I would prefer the non nitro version.

12 oz bottle 3 weeks past its best by date of 2/25/15 into a chalice glass A: Pours a cloudy dirty orange color with very little head, lacing or carbonation rising. More brilliant and clear color as the beer warms. Too cold I guess. 2nd bottle has more head and adequate to nice degree of lacing. S: A burst of orange hit my nose at first pop but not noticed again, replaced by a dark fruit smell along with some toffee. 2nd bottle has a slight hint of cinnamon on the nose. T: Tart and toasty with a fruity snap that I like. Fruity/earthy hop taste with a wheaty malt note. Pretty good. M: Medium bodied with very little noticeable carbonation, finishing tart and a little sticky but clean overall if a little flat. O: Interesting enough ESB though maybe not enough so to buy regularly at $10/6. I may be missing some of the intended flavor and feel of this beer due to the age. Overall though I like the style and think its a pretty decent representation.

Bottle. A- Caramel, malty, grains, alcohol, subtle spice. A- Amber color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Malty, grains, unbalanced, spices, wheat, caramel. P- Light body, average texture, medium carbonation, harsh finish. O- This was pretty band. I’ve been unimpressed with Left Hand and this doesn’t change that fact. Like an amber ale and just very bad.

Bottle on nitro shared by Big John. Pours orange copper with an attractive eggshell head and a toffee aroma. There is a sweet malt flavor with a mildly bitter finish.

Bottle - small foamy head, mildly hazy medium copper color, biscuity malt aroma and flavor, moderate earthy and herbal hops, smooth finish (I guess from the "nitro"), pretty good overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle with a Best By 4/10/2015 date stamped on the neck of the bottle. It pours amber-copper with a modest cream colored head that lingers and laces a little. Toasted bread, caramel malts, and sweetness define the aroma with little to no hop note. Medium, smooth texture. A sweet tasting beer that highlights the caramel malts and toast with a mildly dry and bitter finish. Well balanced.
