Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Tap. Copper pour with off-white head that leaves some lacing. Caramel, bread, floral, citrus. Soft medium-light body. Not bad but not exciting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nitro bottle. Pours amber with a thick off-white head coalescing on top. Nose is somewhat muted by the head, but has herbs and spicy, caramelly malts reminiscent of good English ESB. Flavor is an excellent rendition of an ESB - perhaps the best I’ve had in an American bottled beer, as a result of the way that the nitro texture enhances the flavor - this is like drinking a wonderful dream that reminds me of some of the best pints I had in England. Flavor is bitter upfront with an herbal bitterness that pleasantly stays on the tongue throughout, more spice and just a bit of sweetness in the middle, finish has a dry mild bitterness that makes one want to sip more. Great stuff.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Clear amber body with a thick off-white head. Low carbonation. Sticky lacing marks. Aroma of caramel, rusty metal, biscuit and light fig. Flavour of honey Cheerios, sponge cake, Digestives and overripe pear. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Not great - a bit flabby and dull.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear amber. Minimal, white head. Light toffee. Soft fruit. A little spicy graininess. Taste is light sweet. Some dryness. Palate has a thin mineral feel. Finishes dry, with some toffee sweetness. Not my thing.

Drought. Dark amber with creamy off-white head, very little malt aroma, low carbonation, smooth with little hops taste, thick body, abrupt finish. Nice and smooth but a bit weak.

Clear amber with minimal head. Aroma of hops, stone fruits and feint sweet almonds. Taste mild sweetness. Finish slight marzipan and bitter herbs. Much better than the other Left Hands I’ve tried.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines, cheers AshtonMcCobb! Pours clear amber, no head. Light nutty aroma, light metallic, light fruit. Taste is nuts and dried fruit. Finishes with a herbal bitterness. Ok.

"a leftover from the CO trip that we had on tap as well. Not bad for the style, though not my favorite. Bright earthy hops in good balance with firm carmel and isscuit malt. Well made."

Nitro Bottle. A very nice ESB. True to english style. Not over hopped but hopped enough to enjoy. Head never goes away and nitro adds a nice creamy texture. Aroma and taste is strong malt. Overall a very nice beer with lots of flavor.

On tap in a pint glass: Pours amber with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel, very light citrus, and grains. Taste is cereal malts with very little hop and a little bit of lemon. Light body, medium carbonation. Kind of disappointing.
