jasonp (1423), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Jan 29, 2008 Bottle, provided by Shing. Dark brown, almost black with a thick beige foamy head. Aroma of wood/oak, smoke and some pipe tobacco. Flavor has notes of chocolate, dark fruits, tobacco, brown sugar and molasses. Pretty sweet and flavorful - not a whole lot of bitterness. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.
AndrewKScott (249), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pours an almost opaque black with a big, tan head. Aroma is chocolate and smoked meats, campfire. Tastes kind of like bacon, which is awesome, and chocolate, with a slight alcohol burn. There’s also some caramel and tobacco. Mouthfeel is smooth, and thick for a porter. A little bit of hops in an otherwise long finish, and overall an awesome ale. If you see this, you should get this. 17thfloor (591), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 25, 2008 Pours near black with a thin creamy beige head. Smokey bacon aroma with some dark malts and a little bit of funky fridge aroma. Amazing flavor, smoke followed by chocolate... fantastic... then bacon and dark chocolate in perfect balance, some wood and residual sugars. Silky smooth carbonation, perfectly creamy, slight syrup, medium full body. More please. MrBendo (976), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 25, 2008 750ml bottle from 2006. Pours a deep brown, but let’s a little light through when in the glass. Small head. Aroma was very smoky on top of a roasted malt/chocolate porter base. Smoke flavor was more ’wood’ s than ’meat’. TomDecapolis (2346), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 10, 2008 Updated: Jun 11, 20082006 bottle. Pours a deep black with a medium bubbly tan head. Aroma of smoked salmon, chocolate, tobacco, woody, carame and creamy fudge. Flavor of hot fudge, smoke meats, toffee, caramel, chocolate, nuts, nice and smooth, earthy, tobacco and light vanilla. Davinci (258), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 10, 2008 Thanks to 17thfkloor for sharing this one. Dark black pour with thin off white head. Aroma is bacon and chocolate all the way. Flavor is much the same, smooth roasty malts, bitter chocolate, and a nice big bacon flavor all blend well. Alcohol is well hidden. Definately would drink this one again.
