Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

750ml Bottle: Sweet fruity aroma. Smells of apples, fruit, yeast, candi sugar, honey, and light spices. Poured golden/amber in color with a small white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of small, medium, and large particles. Heavily sweet flavor. Tastes of fruit, honey, candi sugar, yeast, cloves, spices, and a hint of vanilla. Medium to full body. Viscous, slightly sticky, then slightly chalky texture. Sweet, lightly dry finish.

2006 bottle. Slightly cloudy light straw with a bit of suspended funk. Caramel and candy sugar aromas with some sour citrusy yeast phenolics and earthy hops. Caramel and candy sugar sweetness with apple, pear and some citrus in the flavor. The fruit and candy sugar sweetness drys fairly quickly for a reasonably dry finish with some hop bitterness. Very nice.

2006 Bottle. Slightly hazy light golden body with a medium creamy white head. Fruity, candi sugar aroma with light caramel. Very sweet caramel, with fruity notes, light apple and possibly pear and a bit more candi sugar, fairly dry finish, with light bitterness. Medium body with moderately carbonation.

2006 bottle. Pours a briliantly clear pale gold with fluffy off-white head. Picking up some horse blanket on the nose with citrus fruits. Medicinal and mouth puckering. Very yeasty flavor (don’t usually mind that but I didn’t care for this particular strain used). Lingering bitterness. I love Left Hand and belgian tripels, but this one just didn’t do it for me.
