The usually peaceful St. Vrain River snakes out of the Rocky Mountains, winding mischievously towards our brewery. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an 1800’s trapper and trader in the valley, St. Vrain is our version of a classic Belgian Tripel. Light in color and lightly hopped using Celeia hops, a touch of malt sweetness contrasts the warm spiciness hidden within. What at first appears benevolent can manifest into a mighty serpent in waiting.

It poured a pale yellow color with no head. The aroma was of banana, clove, citrus and biscuit. The taste was of banana, spice, bread, biscuit and clove. It had a light body with soft carbonation. Nice.

22 oz bottle (vintage 2013) into my Funkwerks glass. Pale, gold and pretty clear with a small, diminishing, white head. Aroma of fruity esters, banana, herbs, clove, sweet malts, Belgian yeast, spicy/citrusy hops and light alcohol. Similar flavor, mild sweetness and light floral bitterness. Medium body with average carbonation and a lingering finish. Not too shabby.

Light color. A nice light sweet flavor. Not too complex. One of the best tripels I have ever had.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2014 650ml bottle, poured into a Trappist glass. Appearance is cloudy straw colored with a small beige head that vanished quickly and left no lacing. Aroma of banana, wheat bread, lemon peels, herbs and alcohol. Taste is light-medium sweet and medium-light bitter. Palate is medium bodied with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Overall a good beer, but for the style it is too sweet and not spicy enough, the alcohol is also too noticeable.

Vintage 2013. Such an amazing clarity. Pear and white grape nose. Sweet and fruity flavor and a little spice. More spice would be an improvement. But very drinkable.

Pours a light hazy, golden/straw color. Aromas of bread, farmhouse, mild mild banana, apricot, lemon zest. Flavor is medium sweet. Lively carbonation with some light graininess and a spicy finish. Overall a good tasty traditional tripel offering from LH.
