COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we’ve named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn’t even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain’s beautiful intricacy.

5000 (4113) - Hardened Liver, USA - MAY 5, 2007
Bottle: Dirty straw, loads of sediment about, moderate to large foamy white head, fairly sticky lacing.   Pale bready nose, yeasty, slight floral aspect.   Soft breadiness on the tongue, a little floral but moreso a bit of heat.   Not really hot, but very warming.   Not as bready as most American examples, but certainly a bit more warming than most.   As it warms the floral aspect gives way to more and more of the alcohol.   However, its not as heavy as other examples, American examples that is.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Alcoholic finish, very warming, somewhat thick bready malts, very slight floral aspect.   Not as heavy, thankfully, but also a bit more alcoholic than most.   I enjoyed it, even if it wasn’t quite Belgianesque.

750ml corked and caged ’06 Bottle 1/13/10 (Courtesy of RSRIZZO)-Poured a cloudy hazy golden yellow. Aroma of farmhouse, yeast, and funk. Taste of pear, fruits, and sweetness. This medium bodied brew was a little past it’s prime but still tasty.

Clear yellow body with no head at all, thinnest lace. Nose of candied apple, booze, sweet white sugar, vanilla and hint of grass. Huge booze notes from opening to finish, sweet apricot and pear flavorful and with impact! This is not meek, and has some distinct notes with bold flavors. It will not disappoint for character, but is it good? Actually I think it is! Palate is very thin and a bit soapy, little carbon. the more I sip it the more I think it may be too full on in flavor and alcohol. Decent.

2009 bottle to St. Bernardus glass. Pours pale golden yellow with a tight foamy head that fades to a foamy tight film with a lingering carbonation. Aroma is oxidised citrus candied sugar with lemon coming to the nose with a malt and yeast as well. Taste is sweeet and bitter candied sugar with yeast and a solid breadiness along with a tangy citrus lemon finish. Palate is medium and chalky and finishes dry (making me want more). Decent brew, glad I got a chance to try this one. Not bad at all.

7/15/11. 22oz bottle. Hazy orange pour with a small off-white head that fades but laces plenty. Slight caramelly aroma with plenty of candi sugar, a bit much funk, and some yeast. Sweet, sugary flavor with plenty of orange peel and lingering yeast. Finishes on the dry side. A bit watery in flavor and feel.

Tallahassee, Fl - Fermentation Market, 22 oz bomber. Pours a slightly cloudy dark golden, somewhat lifeless. Aroma is sweet and lemony with a hint of spice. Flavor is smooth, yet bold, with a spicy, grains of paradise onslaught up front. Hints of honey, lemon and a bit of yeast fill in the back end. Thick, but smooth mouthfeel. Solid.

Pours deep gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Sweet candi and lemon aromas. Sweet honey upfront turning to dusty pepper in the dry lasting finish.

A hazy yellow color that seems o emit its own light. Smells like a banana covered in honey. Taste has some banana again, but in the pre-ripe, still kinda green stage. Orange blossom honey evident, with some OJ. Spicy Belgian yeast finishes off. Pretty tasty, would do better on a heavier body. As it is, it’s a little light.

Reviewed from notes. On tap at the brewery in August 2009. Pours a very hazy golden color with a slight white head and lacing, though nowhere where this should be at with the style. The nose is a bit spicy with some light fruit and alcohol. There’s a bit of fruit in the taste as well as yeast and spice, but a bit plain. Quite a bit boozy in the feel. Drinks alright, but I prefer their hoppy stuff. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 11-14-2010

Bottle thanks to DLau. Pours a slightyl hazy light golden straw with a rocky white coloured head. Big spicy yeast aromas with some light biscuity malt in support. Flavours are mildly swet upfront with some light sourness showing through. Medium mouthfeel. Nic ebeer.
