f.k.a. Left Hand Oak Aged Imperial Stout

GOOD MORNING. YOU’VE WOKEN UP DEAD. YOU’RE IN RUINS. On the brink of catastrophe. But don’t be discouraged. You are ripe for a revolution! Just like the Bolsheviks of the early 1900’s, our barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout doesn’t happen overnight. Patience is required. Wake Up Dead hibernates in our cellars for over 12 months before being blended to woody perfection. Hints of raisins, cherry, licorice and toffee, followed by earthy, herbal hop notes that rise up, joining in your fight for a better life. Don’t be afraid of the dark. All power to the stouts!

I don’t know, maybe i was misled. Thought this was a barrel-aged version (the tap handle said barrel-aged). I didn’t get many wood notes. aside from that - it was a pretty standard Imperial stout. I enjoyed that it was served on nitro. I don’t think there was anything super outstanding or amazing in my glass. It was just a little thin. I told my wife i was surprised at how drinkable it was. and not delicious drinkable - plain/boring drinkable. just not exciting.

22oz bottle. Near black pour with some tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, wood, bourbon, chocolate - flavor is woody and sweet with a smooth finish. A drastic improvement on the original.

Poured from 22oz bomber, pours black with a nice light brown head, aroma is sweet with a little bit of whiskey and some vanilla and oak, doesn’t really stand out, the flavor has a nice vanilla and oak front end with a really sweet finish, mouthfeel is nice, really wanted more out of this one.

Very awesome barrel aged RIS. Aroma is straight up whiskey barrel to me. Color is opaque black with minimal head. Tastes amazing. Easily my favorite of the day. I do detect the advertised raisin and cherry, but with some vanilla bourbon in there as well. Finishes with more of the same... And no complaints about it.

65 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 07.05.2010, BBE 12/2011
Vertical with Imperial Stout, this one was slightly better and almost worth 4.0
Aroma is stale and stinging with whiskey and ashy vanilla notes. Flavour has stinging whiskey. More round and smooth than the basic IS. Less CO2, but still enough for good drinkability. Good.

On draft at the brewery. Pours a deep black with a tan ring. Aroma of whiskey, malt, wood, coffee, and chocolate. Taste of wood, some sweeter molasses, malt, and whiskey. Hides the alcohol rather well. Lingering sweet whiskey flavors. Very tasty.

10th Anniversary 750 ml bottle to snifter (thanks tmoney99). Looks solid; a dull black with light beige lacing. Smells solid too; roasty and malty with notes of oak. Tastes like it smells with some hops too. Average on the palate. Glad to get to try this; it’s held up remarkably well.

On tap @ Bierproeflokaal In De Wildeman, Amsterdam. As good as pitch black with a big nice dense tan top. Lovely roasted chocolate on the top, coffee with vanilla, and wood-sweetness. Tons of licorice in the flavor! Almost like I’ve never tasted before. Light roasted and dry-woody also. Soft to average prickling with a thick oily mouthfeel. Really tasty. A warming feeling glides towards the finish. Yups, this is tasty stuff! 27.09.2012

I am not a huge stout fan but this one was very good to drink during a Fantasy Football draft party. Got raisens and chocolate. Very lively CO2 and disapates slowly. Better when slightly cooler then room temperature.
