f.k.a. Left Hand Oak Aged Imperial Stout

GOOD MORNING. YOUíVE WOKEN UP DEAD. YOUíRE IN RUINS. On the brink of catastrophe. But donít be discouraged. You are ripe for a revolution! Just like the Bolsheviks of the early 1900ís, our barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout doesnít happen overnight. Patience is required. Wake Up Dead hibernates in our cellars for over 12 months before being blended to woody perfection. Hints of raisins, cherry, licorice and toffee, followed by earthy, herbal hop notes that rise up, joining in your fight for a better life. Donít be afraid of the dark. All power to the stouts!

2009 Bottle from Kinz. Pours black with khaki colored head. Aromas of oak, chocolate cake, vanilla, booze, and a little dark fruit. Flavors of oak, some dark fruit, chocolate, some booze, and toffee notes. Carbonation and body is pretty nice. Held up nice for being 4 years old.

Light aroma for style licorice dark fruit, some bourbon, brown sugar. Black with brown edges. Off white head. Well intergrated bourbon, some chocolate....but everything is kind of subdued. Kind of like itís aged. Nice in a way, busurprising... Wood and cherry come out on aroma with warmth.

Bottle share thanks Aaron. Pours jet Black with beige head and great lacing on the glass. Smell is thick bourbon vanilla and chocolate. Taste is definitely bourbon, vanilla, light chocolate and maybe some dark fruit after taste. Overall a very good beer I wasnít expecting such a great mixture between bourbon and stout with just enough hop bittering to finish the beer off.

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours an almost opaque brown/black and is topped by a nice frothy tan head. Aroma is oak, roasted malts, and cocoa. Taste is roasted malts, oak, vanilla, molasses, and cocoa. Very tasty.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2013 Pours dark with a one finger khaki colored head and a bit of lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate malt and toasted grain. Taste is dark roasted malts and chocolate with a hint of vanilla and bourbon. Not enough bourbon for me. Decent. Update: tried on a fresh palate: 3.9

Pours black, of course. Sweet vanilla, charred oak, and currants in the aroma. Flavor is even more complex with bourbon, more char, and smoke added. The evidence of the barrel aging is more pronounced as it warms. Iím even getting a hint of cherry, which really works. Cocoa powder and anise in there, as well. Hops finally come in at the end to provide a bitter finish. A big fan of this. Huge flavors, obvious impact from the barrel aging, complex, balanced, very smooth. And the name? Youíd never guess it weighs in at 10.2%

I donít know, maybe i was misled. Thought this was a barrel-aged version (the tap handle said barrel-aged). I didnít get many wood notes. aside from that - it was a pretty standard Imperial stout. I enjoyed that it was served on nitro. I donít think there was anything super outstanding or amazing in my glass. It was just a little thin. I told my wife i was surprised at how drinkable it was. and not delicious drinkable - plain/boring drinkable. just not exciting.

22oz bottle. Near black pour with some tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, wood, bourbon, chocolate - flavor is woody and sweet with a smooth finish. A drastic improvement on the original.
