3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jnate24 (30) - Colorado, USA - NOV 29, 2011
Quite enjoyed this one. Label says raisin, licorice, chocolate and hops and I easily identified these and other flavors. I might call this a breakfast stout as it has a sweet, almost syrupy taste and feel. Overall a middle tier stout with a unique twist that’s worth a try.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 travita (2650) - Frisco, Texas, USA - NOV 23, 2011
Brown to black in color, tannish colored head. the smell is coffee, roasty, chocolate, malts. The taste is the same as the smell. Nothing special typical stout like but a touch more boring.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Waterbury (37) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 22, 2011
Small disappearing head and black color. smells of malt, coffee, alcohol, licorish. Seems light for a stout, starts salty with a sweet lingering finish. Wasn’t bad
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 durhambeer (2102) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - NOV 15, 2011
Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Cool label. Pours on the light side for a stout. One-finger off-white head. Nose is sweet and slightly hoppy. Caramel, toffee and chocolate. Vanilla. Mild wood/barrel notes. Sweet, almost more like a dark brown ale. Not what I expected, but not bad.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Angelmonster (86) - Colorado, USA - NOV 8, 2011
Pours a half inch off white head. Body is an extremely dark brown. Head retention and lacing are pretty minimal.
Aroma is of roasted caramel malts and caramelized brown sugar. I had read a review acouple days ago that said there was a burnt plastic smell and I definitely get that mixed with raw alcohol. Not getting much from the barrel aging except for some slight booze.
Taste is not of typical Imperial stout. Its missing the chocolate/coffee roasted flavors that I love in stouts. The best way that I could explain it is an american strong ale with some off flavors of burnt plastic and booze. Hops are pretty muted.
Mouthfeel is probably the only quality of the beer that is above average. Carbonation level is good and body while by no means is rich, is somewhat syrupy. Unfortunately the head died halfway through the beer.
Overall this beer was disappointing. I could drink the whole bomber but honestly I have about five other beers in the fridge that I’d rather drink right now. I have no idea what went wrong with this beer but if you’re reading this save the 9 bucks or whatever it costs and buy some fade to black or even left hand’s milk stout is way better than this one.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BelvidereIPA (99) - Belvidere, Illinois, USA - OCT 10, 2011
Pours a dark brown. Looks almost watered down...but doesn’t taste it. Nice caramel/coffee aroma. The finish of alcohol knocks it down a few rungs and separates the top Imperials. Good beer, just not quite complete.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 onceblind (1623) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 8, 2011
(dunno what happened to this rating...I rated this nearly a year ago, and somehow it got moved to "Left Hand Oak Aged Imperial Stout"...so I’m moving it back.) Pours out clearish dark brown, but black in the glass. Very light tan head, not very thick and not very lasting. Aroma is mostly prunes and chocolate with a little roastiness and wood mildly hiding in the background. Aroma overall is very mild. Surprisingly so is the flavor. For a barrel aged imperial stout at over 10%, not only is the alcohol very well hidden, but the flavor profile overall is somewhat medium bodied and uncomplex. Tastes like a normal, average stout (not a bad thing in of itself) with subtle notes of woody booze. The finish is more bitter than I’d like in a stout. Not much chocolate notes, disappointingly. An overall letdown. I just burped some just now, and it tasted like rotten eggs. Not good.
