4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 20, 2004UPDATED: MAY 28, 2007 2007 bottle sampled on 5/28/07: Pours a mostly opaque with dark brown edges and a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet caramel and dark chocolate with a nice blend of bourbon oak. Body starts fairly full and with a nice oaky caramel and dark chocolate complexity. Well-balanced and very drinkable.
Original release sampled on 3/20/04: Pours an opaque rich oily color with a nice thick tan head. Aroma doesn’t jump right out at you, but sniffing a little closer yields a wealth of rich caramel and chocolate malts with very nice oak notes. First sip is caramely sugary sweet with the oak making it’s presence known along with some dark chocolate and roasted malts. Has lots of rich oaky complexity. One of, if not the best, balances of oak and imperial stout flavors I have had in a beer. Finishes sweet, rich and with some oak and very little sense of alcohol. Wonderfully balanced and quite drinkable, this is a world-class imperial. Thanks ern!

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle. Pours a viscous black with a thin head of dark khaki colored foam. Aroma is raisin, toffee, wood, and something on the verge of tartness. Taste has more of the dark fruits, raisin sweetness going on. Really like the raisin taste in this beer.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Argonian (133) - Athens, GREECE - FEB 24, 2013
Draught. Pours a pitch black body, with a dark brown head that diminishes slowly, leaving a very good lace. Aroma dominated by vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Medium to heavy sweet taste, with notes of vanilla, coffee, chocholate and rum, exceptional. Smooth texture, low carbonation, heavy body. This was a beer to remember...Very close to a perfect ten.

Aroma of sweet toffee, caramel, and chocolate. Pours black with white film. Tastes light with nice dark fruits, wood oak notes, and finishes with sweet roast. Solid, especially for the price.
3.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 mcrae19 (59) - - FEB 13, 2013
Bottle. Served in a snifter. Pours almost jet black with very little head or aroma. Thick mouthfeel. Hints of cola and red wine grapes. Rich, prevalent flavors of wood and alcohol but with a smooth finish. Be sure to drink this one at the recommended 55-60 degrees; the flavors open up significantly. A very good stout.
