UPDATED: SEP 12, 2006 Pours a black red with a chocolate malt aroma. Alcohol is fairly noticable. Very bitter and full of chocolate, caramel, molasses, and heavy roasted flavors. The alcohol is a bit too heavy, but otherwise an excellent brew.

Reddish brown colour with a small tan head. Light roasted malty aroma with bread notes and some alcohol sweetness. Roasted malty flavor, some sweet chocolate notes and a bitter finish.

Bottle. Red brown colour with a small baige head. Roasted, chocolate, Rye bread aroma and a sweet roasted chocolate, rye bread taste. Medium body and a sweet light alcoholic finish.

Sampled at the Pizza Port 9th Strong Ale Festival. Cocoa and coffee with some vanilla notes, bittering to balance, alcohol presence was notable but not offensive. A decent IS, nicely done.

Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Quite sweet, with aromas of chocolate and a hint of sweet liquirish. Quite sticky and full. Very nice. I prefer this to the oak aged version.

Huge notes of vanilla in the nose, very roasty, lots of coffee and some notes of bourbon. Very dark brown body with a red tint, small tan head. Roasty and bitter flavor, lots of coffee flavor.

Pour is a jet black with no head. Aroma is a stong chocolate and coffee with a touch of alcohol. Flavor is bitter chocolate with a touch of vanilla. The aroma is by far better than the flavor. Not the best impy stout but it has plenty to offer.

bottle from HEB. mellow aroma for an imperial stout...just hints of roast, bread. black, with big tan head. medium/heavily bodied. the malt is at the fore here, and it’s great. finish is a mix of warming alcohol and an excellently mild roasty finish. if you are a hardcore imperial stout fan, this might not do it for you, but I quite like it. Just wish there was more in the aroma

Thick and black. Very little head of a slightly off-white. Sweet roasted aroma with a little alcohol. Flavor is lacking the big imperial stoutness. It has the same thick texture but tastes more like a very roasty stout. I think I kind of detect some coconut. The bottle says 10.4% abv. and it is well hidden. This imperial stout is average to slightly above average. Then again, anything is better than the samuel smith imperial stout.
