Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

This is the beer that underlined my strange forgotten yet very evident night of drinking...started early then soccer, more, then the Coops! ...thats where it starts to go...but i tryed and concentrated and this what i got. Roasty and oil slicks....dark dark ruby appearance....sharp tobacco alco smell...some nice flavours on the first sips..seems like a great impy on tap that got bastardized in the bottle..good masking and drinkable. after this beer i have no real idea what the hell happened.....f u....

Pours a dark ruby/black, medium tan head subsides to a thin ring in a couple of minutes. Light coffee and dark fruit aroma with some evidnet alcohol. Nice chewy mouthfeel, smooth and full. Coffee comes through again in the flavor with some molasses. The flavor is quite dominated by the malt, with the hops coming through only at the end as some light spice and citrus. Finishes smooth and slightly sweet. Improves as it warms. A very easy drinking impy, quite enjoyable.

Black color with no head. Light aroma of roasted malt and molasses. Flavor is malty with esters. Big up front bitterness. Thin body. Alcohol is barely detectable. OK beer.

"Poured almost black with some red edges okay head and lacing. Aroma was of chocolate. FLavor was much the same with dark fruits and coffee coming out after it warmed. Mouthfeel was thin for style. "

This was one of six beers purchased at the Carytown Square Richmond, VA. The stout poured with a frothy tan head. the color was jet black. There were hints of raisins, licorice and coffee. The high alcohol was hdden very well. The beverage was smooth to the last. Some hops that tempered the sweetness. Not bad but not GREAT!!!

On tap at the brewery in a mercifully small glass at the brewery, 4/13/06: dark, dark red bordering on black. Simple review: this is strong. Syrupy essence. The 9.5% alcohol can’t hide in this. Big stout.

12 oz bottle

This dark colored liquid poured with a thin tan head that soon dissolved to nothing. As it sat there, scents of cocoa, coffee, vanilla and slight hops revealed themselves. On taking a sip I was overwhelmed by the bitterness. After that, a pleasant mixture of flavors became evident including roasted coffee beans, chocolate powder, walnuts and a peppery taste. Soon afterwards a malty texture joins in. Overall there is a nice velvety feel but I feel like the flavors could be a little tighter and richer. I hope that oak aging improves on the base version; this one is nice but it is not enough to make me want another bottle.

On tap, tulip at Silver Creek. Dark brown body, creamy tan head. Odd wood-roasted hop aroma and start. Rich whiskey chocolate flavor... odd start maybe fungal or lactic? Was hoping for better, but its "odd" character that I keep referring to turns me off a bit.

Bottle. Black pour with a moderate frothy light brown head that diminished slowly with some lacing. Heavy toasted sweet malt with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture. Heavy sweet toasted malt and spice flavor with a long smooth finish. Good stout.
