Hereís a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes youíre not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Bottle, 355ml. A dark beer with a red hue and a big foamy brown head. Aroma is of black coffee, dark sweet milky chocolate, nuts and roasted malt. Taste is bitter with a sweet chocolate finish. Very smooth; clearly a nitro. Some carbonation and astringency. Pleasant aftertaste of coffee. A great imperial stout.

Poured a nice dark brown, minimal head, tiny bubbles from the nitro. A hint of licorice on the nose and palate. Not much going on texture wise. I like my RISís thick and chewy. This beer just didnít get it done.

Solid imperial. Deep dark flavors. Good aroma, steady mouthfeel. Good winter beer.

8/3/2007 12:39:18 PM Bottle from BierKoning. Dark, black colour with fast-receding head. Spicy nose. Dark flavours of licorice, jagermeister, dark berries and heavy on the chocolate. Dense. Excellent lacing. Full mouthfeel. Buttery finish. Coloradoís on fire.

Pours a dark brown with almost no head. Appears very thin, barely clings to the glass. Nice aroma of dark fruits and licorice. It has an odd texture and flavor, mostly licorice. The taste hits the roof of your mouth then finishes harsh leaving a massive aftertaste of black licorice. Too thin for an imperial stout? Flavors are strange to say the least. Not one of my favorites for this style of beer.

The Nitro version in bottle from Beautiful Beers. Forgot to ípour hardí but nevertheless a good head and rich scent. Scent disappears quite quickly. Nice tight bubbles and creamy froth. Pours remarkably light brown, was expecting much darker. Scent of molasses and chocolate. Taste confirms reservations. Not a stout but more like a strong Belgian Dubbel/Brune or a Quadrupel, rather than a Stout. Sweet malt, caramel, molasses and milk chocolate. Very light bitterness. Alcoholic burn, effervescent mouthfeel and hop finish. Great Quad but not a Stout. Really good though but poorly described by brewery. Nice complexity and long lingering caramel/hop finish.

Bottle, 355ml. Opaque dark ruby/brown with a creamy tan head. Deep roasted aroma with hints of dried fruits, dark chocolate. Medium to Robust bodied. Rich, smooth and very creamy. Sweet and moderately bitter. Earthy toasted character with a subtle hoppiness. Fruity bitter finish. Very nice.

Came highly recommended, so I was excited. Great pour and looked absolutely delicious. I love Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout, so I was ready to enjoy this brew. Nope. Tasted absolutely terrible. As you can see, Iím not nearly as articulate as most reviewers, but this beer tastes wretched to me.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Nitro version. Clear, dark ruby red. Thin, tight, lasting, tan head. Some legs. Foam slides slowly back down the glass after each sip. Big, fruit and nut chocolate. Soft, sweet fruit. Prunes and fig and such. Chocolate chip cookie malts. Smells great. Maybe on the sweet side but Iíll cope. Taste is brown sugar sweet. Some roast coffee dryness. Super smooth palate. Lots of stickage. Finishes long, dried fruit, cocoa bitter. Itís super drinkable, but it feels a bit widgety.

White renewable foam covers a sparse aroma of licorice. Its flavor is most licorice scent with licorice root as a fundamental element. Have some coffee notes roam towards the end and it also has a sharp taste of alcohol. It is delightfully rich and delicate, but its alcohol taste is too aggressive and destructive in the long run. After some years of storage, I believe it is much better.
