Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Nitro bottle. Black pour with a light beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, and notes of chocolate. Flavor is sweet roasted malts upfront with notes of raisin and cocoa. Easy to drink and very tasty. Abv is also well-hidden. Respectable stout.

An easy to drink Russian imperial stout from left Hand. Almost as good as the milk stout. Smells malty. Had at my house. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Serving: from bottle (labeled "nitro")--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: moderate malt, overripe fruit and alcohol. Appearance: average-sized, creamy, light brown, initial head with mostly lasting longevity and an excellent sheet of lacing. Dark-brown body. Taste: heavily sweet, chocolate, overripe fruit and alcohol initial taste and finish with long duration. Palate: full bodied with creamy texture and flat carbonation. Overall: excellent. Great palate and appearance. Unique flavor.

Transfer from BA review on 3-14-12 - Served in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance –Served a deep dark black color with a very small brown head. The brew looks sticky just from the way it seems to cling to the glass when swirled. The head faded fast and gave way a decent lacing. Smell – Roasted coffee and malt notes are the heaviest. There is also a nice presence of chocolate and nuttiness. Taste – Just as the nose forebode, roasted malt and coffee are the most prevent flavors. The two together persist throughout the taste. More toward the middle some sweeter notes come into play; a little bit of vanilla and a bittersweet chocolate flavor mixed with some darker fruit flavors of prune and raisin. These flavors along with the coffee and roasted malt are met with some nuttiness more toward the end of the taste. Finally at the very end, a warming alcohol flavor comes to the tongue. Not too strong – it’s just enough to warm without overpowering any of the other flavors. Mouthfeel – Nice and creamy with a lower level of carbonation. The beer coats the palette with a nice smoothness; allowing the dark roasty flavors to really permeate the tongue. Overall - A rather nice imperial stout. A nice warming brew with a good roasty, but balanced taste as well as very pleasing mouthfeel.

Jet black bottle pour with sudsy, tan head. Ruby hue around the edges. Aromas leads with toasted malt, followed with black berries and coca beans. Taste is medium-bitter. High cacao chocolate set against dark berries. Well roasted malts. Small amounts of oatmeal. Creamy mouthfeel. Lingers in the mouth like a dark chocolate bar. High abv is never an issue.

Hard bottle pour into snifter glass, opaque black color with creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, grain, cocoa and faint dark fruit. Taste brings out notes of black tea, coffee, licorice, smoke and herbal/earthy hop bitterness. Heavy body, low carbonation(nitro), creamy, sticky with boozy bitter roast finish. Nice texture and body.

As ’Left Hand Imperial Stout’. Bottled Feb 2012 at 10.5%. Very thin pour forms a dark brown beer with a small beige ring of head. Aroma - alcohol, oil fumes, caramel, yeast, lemon flavoured chocolate. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste is light - milky coffee, thin gravy, finishes dry with prickly alcohol. Middling Imperial Stout. My girlfriend said ’disgusting’. Imperial stout rating #100.

Nitro version, 12oz bottle. Pours a dark black color with no head. Aroma is strong barley, chocolate malts, cocoa. The taste is rich, milky, slightly sweet, a little bitter at the end. Lots of chocolate, malted barley, oats, cereal flavors. The mouthfeel is creamy and delicious. Really good nitro beer.
