Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Originally rated as ’L.H. Imperial Stout’ on 8/ 28/08. Left Hand I.S. poured a black body, turning into a deep ruby when held to light. A creamy thin cap, with a little carbonation left some lace. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Taste was similar with the alcohol dominating the intial sip, turning into a sweet malty body, and then a coffee aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit light however. Overall its a pretty decent brew, I will have to try more of the Left Hand brew Co. products

Pours jet black with a creamy tan head that lasts forever. Nose is bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and fig, with more muted notes of date, anise and vanilla. Taste is a great complex blend of cocoa, vanilla bean, coffee, dark fruits, licorice, and alcohol, with the licorice (thankfully) more in the background than the rest. Very good stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Opaque, forever lasting head, coveeing lace. Full body, silky texture, moderately flavorful with a dilute middle, moderate heat, lingering palate. Bitter, off dry. Strong roast flavors, coffee, Nice and typical imperial stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nitro. Pours with thick, creamy tan head and pitch black body. Head is so creamy and milky, slightly sweet, but also with considerable hop bitterness and good roastiness. Flavors are again sweet but not cloying, roasty, with a hoppy punch that keeps this from being too dangerously easy to drink. Even with the hops, this goes down a lot easier than its 10.2% suggest.

Bottle. Black body with a dense beige head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of vanilla pods, milk chocolate, raisins and biscuit. Flavour of cocoa powder and herbs with a peppery finish. Medium body with a creamy texture. Soft fizz. Rich, creamy and very drinkable. I like these bottled nitro beers.

Pours pitch black with a beautiful creamy head. Aroma: very subtle and pleasant aroma of a chocolate milk shake. Taste: first smooth and then burstling with coffee and chocolate, followed by a nice roastiness and hoppy palate. Great.

Bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque very dark brown color, creamy tan head, wide lace bands. Taste is dark chocolate and malt that has overtones of coffee and anise. It grows through the palate to a long, alcohol-warmed, straight hop bittered finish. Big, no doubt. Also milky smooth. Quite satisfying.

Wow! Not what I was expecting. Got a bottle as an afterthought since I often like nitros, popped it and admired the very smooth, balanced taste and had to read the label to check the ABV, since the 10% is not noticeable. Naturally it’s a pitch black stout that retains a pale brown head, aroma of dark malt. I would say that this is a complex brew, with vanilla, chocolate, malt and dark fruit, but the complexity and flavors are very subtly mixed into a creamy delight. Very nice slightly sweet stout.

Nitro version on tap. Black pour with large creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, caramel and lactose. Taste of creamy fudge, roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, hint of licorice and lactose. Full bodied, soft creamy mouthfeel, perfectly balanced. Delicious!!
