Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Poured from nitro bottle. Pours a dark almost black color with creamy white two finger head. Aroma - chocolate notes, small bit of coffee, malt, touch of yeast. Taste - coffee, dark chocolate, dark malt, licorice, touch of milky creaminess. Licorice is a bit overwhelming. Slight bit of alcohol burn at the back of the throat. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. Finish is medium length.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/28/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, brown sugar, toasted oats, raisin, light licorice, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate dark fruit notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, brown sugar, toasted oats, raisin, light licorice, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, brown sugar, toasted oats, raisin, light licorice, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate dark fruit flavors; with a great roasted malt bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Russian imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Look: pours a black color. Lights tan head. Smell: very fruity. Apple. Slight coffee flavor. Black Licorice. Light coffee. Taste: black licorice. Light coffee. Coffee bitterness. Light chocolate. Very roasty. Feel: very creamy mouth feel. Extremely smooth. Not too overly nitrogenated. Overall: good beer. Not a huge fan of the licorice. Too much coffee bitterness. But a good attempt at a coffee stout. First drank: home 11/12/14

Pours dark but not the darkest. Aroma is fruity and alcohol. Lots of alcohol in flavor, some licorice. Not really big for 10%, not rich enough. Ok.

Had this on nitrogen tap. The head has a creamy and smooth texture with a light mocha color. Smooth mouthfeel that you’d expect with nitrogen. Super sweet an malty aroma, but when you taste it, the taste is not overwhelmingly malty. It is well balanced with the alcohol, maltiness, and bitterness.

12oz bottle shared. Poured pretty much black with an off white head. Slow sagging lacing on the glass. The aroma is dark roasted malts, chocolate, hints of anise. Creamy flavor sling with the roasted malts, dark chocolate, hints of licorice. Quite smooth for an imperial stout. Not chewy at all. Overall delicious.

12 oz nitro botle pours a dark black color with a thick tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, anise. Full bodied but smooth, really great with the nitro pour.

1pt 6fl oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours black with a large fluffy tan head. Aroma is chocolate and hints of coffee. Tastes like raisins, chocolate, coffee, a little bit of alcohol. Palate is viscous and fizzy. More alcohol on the back end and a rather bitter lasting finish. I really like this one. Certainly a fine representative of the style. Yum. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle with b-law. Pours very dark with moderate head. Aroma is complex with cocoa, dark fruit, gram cracker, vanilla. Chocolate, milky cream taste, tootsie roll. Creamy texture. Rich. Complex. Very good. Medium light sweetness, light bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
