Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Poured very dark with a thick tan head. Aroma of roast malt and chocolate. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel, flavour as the aroma with coffee and a lingering dry, bitter aftertaste.

In spite of a pretty vigorous pour, a very thin, creamy, caramelized colored head appears atop the opaque, very dark brown color. Chocolate, dark fruit, and light smoke comprise the surprisingly mild nose. Thick, creamy and smooth. Caramel, vanilla, coffee, and dark fruit in the very well-blended flavors.

22 oz bomber poured into a tulip glass..opaque pour with 1 finger tan head..aroma of coffee, licorice, roasted nuts..taste of coffee, milk..not as dry as I thought and overall just ok.

Pours very dark brown, love the cascading nitro action with a tan creamy head. Aroma roast malt, milk chocolate, toffee, hint of alcohol. Taste roast malt, sweet milk chocolate, toffee as in the aroma, slight coffee, alcohol throughout, but not boozey or overpowering.

hopmelt (104) - Painesville TWP, Ohio, USA - APR 6, 2014
Pours very dark brown, cascading nitro action, half finger creamy head. Aroma roast malt, milk chocolate, toffee, hint of alcohol. Taste roast malt, sweet milk chocolate, toffee as in the aroma, slight coffee, alcohol throughout, but not over bearing, hint of earthy hips to balance everything out. Mouthfeel smooth, rich and creamy, nitro really shines here, nice alcohol astringency, very balanced finish. Overall really good beer, not a top Imperial stout, but more drinkable than most and very balanced and tasty.

Pours black with a medium chocolate pillowy head. Aroma is black licorice, chocolate, coffee. Mouthfeel is smooth with low carbonation. Taste is subdued with dark fruit, chocolate, and black licorice. I think some age would make me enjoy this more.

335 ml bottle. Black with brown persistent foam. Big complex nose of chocolate, coffee beans, hops, spices. Smooth full body with notes of dark chocolate, spices, coffee beans, espresso, hops. Balanced very well, bitter roasty end, long aftertaste.

Good. But way too boozy. It’s the first and last notes I get. In the middle is a solid stout. This one would’ve been better a t 8.5%.

chocolate, dough, earthy, cheese, banana, leather, trying to pull my nostrils apart! quite intense, red, black, hazy, appearance with no head, medium sweetness, very bitter, lightly sour, full body, creamy, thick feel, soft carbonation, huuuuuge malt aftertaste almost vinegary but not enough to ruin it, and at 18 quid a bottle it has to be pretty good right?

Imperial Ale done right. Roasty aroma. Thin, lacy head. When you swallow it you can sense the malts, the coffee sensibility. There is no bitter aftertaste. It has a light, dark chocolate pep to it with some booziness. A good but not great beer. Absolutely drinkable.
