Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Aromas of raisins, coffee, and dark chocolate. Black with ruby highlights, and mostly lasting, tan head foam. Sweet up front, with roasty bitterness. Full bodied, creamy, a perceptible sensation of strength, but not boozy, carbonation is average, and finishes very dry with lingering roasted dark chocolate flavors.

Came highly recommended, so I was excited. Great pour and looked absolutely delicious. I love Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout, so I was ready to enjoy this brew. Nope. Tasted absolutely terrible. As you can see, I’m not nearly as articulate as most reviewers, but this beer tastes wretched to me.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Nitro version. Clear, dark ruby red. Thin, tight, lasting, tan head. Some legs. Foam slides slowly back down the glass after each sip. Big, fruit and nut chocolate. Soft, sweet fruit. Prunes and fig and such. Chocolate chip cookie malts. Smells great. Maybe on the sweet side but I’ll cope. Taste is brown sugar sweet. Some roast coffee dryness. Super smooth palate. Lots of stickage. Finishes long, dried fruit, cocoa bitter. It’s super drinkable, but it feels a bit widgety.

White renewable foam covers a sparse aroma of licorice. Its flavor is most licorice scent with licorice root as a fundamental element. Have some coffee notes roam towards the end and it also has a sharp taste of alcohol. It is delightfully rich and delicate, but its alcohol taste is too aggressive and destructive in the long run. After some years of storage, I believe it is much better.

Nitro bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, espresso, earthy notes, and faint dark fruit. Flavor is dark chocolate, espresso, light ash, rich vineous fruit, cocoa, and faint booze. Full body.

Silky, slight chocolate mouth coating, but not heavy on the chocolate taste. Pours out flat at first, then produces an awesome finger of caramel foam (if poured properly). Touch of cherry on the nose, slightest coffee. Medium body for an imperial, roasty. It’s a solid stout.

From a bottle. Pours dark brown with a smooth creamy beige head. Smells like chocolate, booze, light raisin, light ash, earthy malt, and earthy hops. Tastes like booze, ash, raisin, earth, and a hint of licorice and chocolate. Light/medium body and carbonation.

Bottle, nitro version. Very rich roasted malt aroma with excellent chocolate notes as well as some licorice. Pours black with a decent light brown head with excellent retention and lacing. Starts with excellent roasted malt and licorice flavors and a slick, creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with rich chocolate sweetness coming through and coating the palate wonderfully. Fantastic Russian imperial stout!

Aromas of chocolate milk, vanilla, caramel, dark malts, raisins, figs, earth and star anise. Pours black with a nice cascading head. Taste is extremely smooth and flavorful with notes of chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, toffee, coffee, espresso, dark malts, caramel, roasted malts. tar, campfire char, dry earthiness, raisins, black licorice, nougat, vanilla and metallic malts. Alcohol is slightly subtle but definitely there. Finishes really dry and roasty with a creeping hop bitterness and resin to it. Overall, this is absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. There are so many flavors going on in this beer and they all just hit you immediately. So well balanced and incredibly complex. A+ rating.

Pitch black pour, guinness-esque brown head. Excellent retention, beauteous. Nice aroma of cocoa, fantastic flavor of chocolate, nuts, toffee and dark fruits. Very smooth and full.

Strong taste that shows its 10% abv. Great dark color and falling head. Reminded me of Guinness in visual terms.
