Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Bottle from South Lyndale Liquors (Minneapolis, Minnesota, 21/1/13)
Aroma of dark fruits, licorice, smoke, and nail polish. Pours a hazy dark brown with minimal head. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly salty, and ever-so-slightly bitter. Full bodied, oily texture, and a soft carbonation.

1pt 6fl oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours black with a large fluffy tan head. Aroma is chocolate and hints of coffee. Tastes like raisins, chocolate, coffee, a little bit of alcohol. Palate is viscous and fizzy. More alcohol on the back end and a rather bitter lasting finish. I really like this one. Certainly a fine representative of the style. Yum. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Pours a black-like-oil colour. Head is medium yellow to beige, very bubbled. Retention is small but a small layer of medium bubbles persist. Many lacings are left S: Smells like an authentic American Imperial Stout, I mean, very biscuity and roasted with hints of dark chocolate and coffee beans followed by this very stingy and grassy smell of hops. Some hints of vanilla and liquor T: Follows the nose. Strong on roasted malts, notes of dark chocolate, coffee followed by grassy and earthy hops. Very biscuity too. Upfront is sweet but mild and finish is quite stingy bitter. Balanced after all M: Body is heavy and molasses. Carbonation is low. Quite bitter aftertaste, pleasure O: Easy drinking beer despite the high ABV. Complex as an American Imperial Stout should be. Good beer [ BA Review @ 1/7/2012 ]

Poured from 16 oz bottle into an ale glass. Make sure to pour it from a bit of a height if you want the full impact of the head. Aroma: Like cocoa and sugar, not much hops aroma at all (I could not detect any). Appearance: Thick and dark, with a substantial head on pour that dissipates fairly quickly. Taste: Lots of chocolate and some coffee, bit of toast, very sweet, some roasted malt in the finish. A hint of hops bitterness on the back end. Palate: Thick and heavy body, almost syrupy. Light carbonation, or maybe it was lost in the heavy body. Finishes long.

Deep black pour with thick creamy tan head. Aroma is mild dark fruit and cocoa. Taste is stronger with chocolate up fruit and a sticky molasses like body. Good beer.
