COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

I’ve never been that impressed with Left Hand brews. They seem either overly complex or overly simple. There’s no middle ground. On the other hand, it’s easily available. Given a choice, I’d drink something else.

Silky, slight chocolate mouth coating, but not heavy on the chocolate taste. Pours out flat at first, then produces an awesome finger of caramel foam (if poured properly). Touch of cherry on the nose, slightest coffee. Medium body for an imperial, roasty. It’s a solid stout.

From a bottle. Pours dark brown with a smooth creamy beige head. Smells like chocolate, booze, light raisin, light ash, earthy malt, and earthy hops. Tastes like booze, ash, raisin, earth, and a hint of licorice and chocolate. Light/medium body and carbonation.

Bottle, nitro version. Very rich roasted malt aroma with excellent chocolate notes as well as some licorice. Pours black with a decent light brown head with excellent retention and lacing. Starts with excellent roasted malt and licorice flavors and a slick, creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with rich chocolate sweetness coming through and coating the palate wonderfully. Fantastic Russian imperial stout!

Aromas of chocolate milk, vanilla, caramel, dark malts, raisins, figs, earth and star anise. Pours black with a nice cascading head. Taste is extremely smooth and flavorful with notes of chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, toffee, coffee, espresso, dark malts, caramel, roasted malts. tar, campfire char, dry earthiness, raisins, black licorice, nougat, vanilla and metallic malts. Alcohol is slightly subtle but definitely there. Finishes really dry and roasty with a creeping hop bitterness and resin to it. Overall, this is absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. There are so many flavors going on in this beer and they all just hit you immediately. So well balanced and incredibly complex. A+ rating.

Pitch black pour, guinness-esque brown head. Excellent retention, beauteous. Nice aroma of cocoa, fantastic flavor of chocolate, nuts, toffee and dark fruits. Very smooth and full.

Strong taste that shows its 10% abv. Great dark color and falling head. Reminded me of Guinness in visual terms.
