This English-style Barleywine is fermented and aged for ten months and dry hopped for two months prior to packaging to give it a smooth mouth feel rarely found in the bitter American barleywines. Its copper color is the result of twelve house of boiling to caramelize the sugars and we also add five varieties of hops during an additional two hour boil. As you can see and taste, we brew this beer with the highest level of quality in mind. Please enjoy this warming barleywine with its warming flavors and hint of peat very responsibly. Malts: Pale, Crystal, Peated. Hops: Magnum, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Cascade, Tettnanger, East Kent Goldings, Fuggles. 70 IBUs.

Light amber with medium lasting head. Quite smooth easy drinking and warming. Would probably make a great intro to the style.

Bottle from Total Wine in Boca Raton. Poured into a snifter at home. Pours an orange brown with a medium thick head. Head gone in 30 seconds. No real lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, barrel, heavy carmelized malts, and mild peat. The taste is malty, caramel, oak barrel, and fresh earthy hops. There was a weird medicinal taste however that was a big turnoff. I found it to be a very hoppy barleywine. I tend to like them more malty. Medium body, bitter mouth with the hops.

Draft @ Sunset. The bartender couldn’t tell me if it was an aged keg. And it doesn’t taste of me it so.... They must have started brewing this again. Anyhow, ruby color with lasting tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, leather and English roasted malts. Flavor is English malt forward. Shoe leather, English toffee, light caramel and mild spice. 8% is covered up with a sweet finish. Overall super easy to drink and not syurpy or over sweet at all.

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Hazy medium amber, good rim head, tiny dots of lace. Taste is sweet caramel malt that adds toast and hay in the palate, turning warmer, and dropping to a little bit hoppy finish. A solid strong, big-bodied quaff, full of caramel and toast.

From the April 2014 3R6P gathering. +++ 2003 edition. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright caramel-orange color with a medium sized foamy white head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was toffee, molasses, honey and vague fruity hops. The flavor was tangy and fruity with notes of toffee, caramel, honey and a bit of pine. Medium length finish. Medium body. Decent.

Aroma is malts, very light DIPA-like pine and grains. The flavor is pale malts, fruit, mild peat notes and a thick and mildly alcoholic finish.

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a clear orange good with decent white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is oak and candy sugar. Light malt and sweet hop. Good.

2007 bottling sampled 2013.

The first of my two bottles, this pours golden with a decent head into a small Samichlaus snifter. Toffee and aged hops -- but less cheesy than would be the case with an overhopped American style barleywine -- dominate the aroma. Flavor is quite nice, the oak well-integrated (I was fearing over-the-top oak chips a la oak arrogant bastard, and that is definitely NOT what one gets here), relatively-low-for-a-barleywine abv well hidden on the tongue. Roughly the right degree of bitter metallic hops on the late finish.

I had basically zero hopes for this one, and relative to that I’m not only favorably impressed, I’m quite favorably impressed. This has aged very nicely.

2003 Bottle...pours a murky amber/caramel with a thin off white head. Aroma has light perfumey fruit and a touch of cardboard. Flavor has candied fruit, caramel, and cardboard. Mouthfeel is medium and watery with an earthy/candied fruit finish.
