Commercial Description:
Our Altbier is brewed in the classic German-style brown ale tradition. The “alt” translates to "old" in German and is one of the original ale types brewed in Germany. Brown Aled Girl is dark brown in color, medium in carbonation with a great balance between malt and hops. Ed. Note: Formerly known as Bixler's Alt.

Draft at DRE. This one pours deep brown with minimal off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, slight brown sugary and figgy fruit. The flavor starts roasty caramel malty, somewhat earthy and nutty, and picks up some finishing hop notes. Smooth and crisp.

[Draft @ Capone’s] Poured a brownish red color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, light roast, cocoa, and faint floral hops. Taste of caramel malts, nuts, light toast, and astringent grains in the finish.

LI beerfest. Pours a deep dark amber- almost too dark for the style- and a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet with candy sugar, caramel malts and very light herbal hops. Flavor is thin and sweet, ligth hoppy bitterness in the end Not as smooth as I would have hoped for. Meh.

On cask at Sidecar. Cloudy brown with a foamy head. Aroma is light bittersweet chocolate with a nice earthty maltiness. Flavor had a hidden grassy hoppinesa which balanced nicely. Finish was a bit short but tasty none the less.

This was on tap at the Bocktown in the Robinson shopping complex. Pour is dark brown with reddish hints. Has a creamy off white head that is mostly composed of fine bubbles. However a few medium size ones give it some personality. The aroma is very interesting & pleasing, lovely sweet fruity berry with malt roastyness in there. I never expected that olfactory impact! The taste is not quite as usual as the other alts I’ve had. It also does not taste like it smells. I would have pegged this as a fruit beer. A medium bitterness greets the tongue. Is that hop of bitter malt? It’s difficult to tell, both may be present. The fruitiness in the aroma is pretty much absent in the taste, never smelled an alt like this. Even tho alt is one of my faves, this is a little bitterer than I like. Alts usually do not have such a fruity aroma and the aroma makes you expect some sweet fruit on the tongue. Finish seems medium bitter and difficult to like. If you are into IPA or imp stout, this may be attractive to you but it seems to be overly impressive for the likes of my alts. Medicinal linger for a few moments after the last drink. Southampton Secret Ale, Erie Brewing Heritage Alt and Schell Schmaltzs Alt are all better than this for flavors. The aroma however is better than any those have to offer.

On draft at the Newtown brewfest with the Mad Indian. Pours deep bronze with a decent size khaki colored head. Aroma of caramel, caramel, and herbal hops. The flavor is sweet, caramel, spices, and a mild hoppy presence.
