This classic American Amber Lagerís full-bodied flavor derives from itís toasty Caramel malt, the finest 2-row malts and Noble hops. Fat Boy Amber is dry-hopped with a hefty pound per barrel to give it a full floral aroma.

Poured into a pint glass. I think itís funny that itís categorized as an amber ale, yet it says amber lager on the bottle. A: Couldnít get much of a head no matter how hard I tried in my freshly washed glass. Orange amber color. Incredibly horrible retention of the head that I did get and minimal lacing. Fine particles floating throughout. S: Sweetish caramel dominates. A tad bit of grassy hops. Fresh. T: Pretty much just crystal malt. Not much else going on. No hop flavor and a minimal bitterness, which is good considering thereís no body. M: Light body. Undercarbonated. Not particularly smooth. Nothing here to make me happy. D: There isnít much reason to drink this unless you want to get drunk in a hurry. I wish I had a do-over for my 150th review. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-16-2009 00:09:02

bottle thanks to bhensonb, again. poured a nice amber with a white-off white head that stayed and left some lace. aroma was a strong caramel malt backbone with dog biscuit and dirt. flavor was a little on the bitter side at first with the presence of some hops followed quickly by some malt and maybe spoiled grains. body was medium with about medium carbonation.

This reddish amber beer poured with a huge beige head and a smoky aroma. Itís got a decent caramel malt base and some nice hop bitteness, but itís too watery. A pretty good amber ale.

Bottle. Grocery Outlet in Berkeley. Pours deep amber with small off-white head. Aroma of very light herbal and mild citrus-like hops, toasted malt. Flavor is slightly sweet with lingering hop bitterness. Not much complexity, but not a bad sessionable dark(er) lager. Closer to a vienna or american dark in style, really.

From a bottle poured a light amber color with a good amount of head. Light watery hoppy malty flavor with a quick finish.

Bottle from Grocery Outlet. Pours a copper color with a decent off-white head. Aromas of pepper, floral hop and caramel. Tickles my nose. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is berry?, wood, caramel, leather, pepper? Itís a bit bready, but has some fruit. Finishes mildly bitter. Surprising. Good.

THOUGHTS: It was sort of odd to me that this lager reminded me of a British ale. It was also maybe ever so slightly skunked. I probably needed to have this one colder than I did. Didnít like it much. But Iíll probably try it again to see if this was just a bad bottle. Not awful. TECHNICAL: Bottle Poured Light orangey amber with an average to large, slightly off-white head that left good lacing. It also had extremely tiny body particles of average to thick density. The aroma was light to moderate toasted, nutty and caramel malts, moderate herbal and grassy hops, along with maybe a little resinous hops. There was also a little rubber and a little citrus. The initial flavor was sweet and a little acidic; while the finish was slightly sour and lightly bitter with an average duration. There was caramel, toasted and nutty malts, a little sour citrus, then light grassy and herbal hops, and a little metallic hops and that rubbery thing from the aroma. The light to medium body was fairly dry with tingly carbonation and a light astringent finish.

Bottle. Light grass and citrus aroma, some good pale malts and middling floral tones. Dark amber pour with a creamy, pillowy beige head. Taste is dry and lightly bitter with some sticky caramel and syrupy hop residue, light floral notes and otherwise noble hops. Lightish-medium body. Grainy, very young beer, or could just be a mess. I suppose this will rank pretty high to style (we currently have it as a Premium Lager), but thereís certainly no compelling reason to come near this.
