argo0 (6230), Washington DC, USA Apr 12, 2007 (draft) Fluffy beige head leaves lovely lacing atop hazy apple juice body. Aroma is moderately sweet, pineapple, some grapefruit, light caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, pineapple/grapefruit, some caramel, apricot. Nice bitterness that lingers. Chewy medium body. Alcohol virtually invisible -- only the sweetness suggests what lies within. Silly name, but great beer. Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 29, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A solid double IPA fresh from NYC’s Ginger Man’s draught lines
I like:
Lasting lacy film covers an unfiltered orange. Alcohol warms everything up without obstructing. No overbearing malty sweetness, just pleasant biscuity undertones. Medium-full bodied with creamy, uniform carbonation.
I dislike:
Not particularly aromatic, although the hop bite if firm and focused. Does not taste all that fresh despite being on draught. Simplistic orangey hop profile.
CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 23, 2008 Bottle: Pours a transparent deep orange copper with a stringy-lacing froth of white head. Aroma of fresh resiny grapefruity hops and an underlying sweet caramely maltiness. Body starts with good fullness and sweet caramel with some toffee and plenty of juicy citrusy hop flavor and bitterness toward a crisp bittersweet finish. A pretty good double IPA. hopdog (4649), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 22, 2006 On tap at Union Jacks in Boyertown. Poured a deep and clear amber / orange color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of pine, orange peel, melons, and grapefruit. All around sticky. Tastes of citrus, melons, and caramel. Light to medium alcohol burn in the finish. Medium bitter to lightly sweet balance. acrdz (4376), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 26, 2007 Pint at Zeno’s. Color is yellow amber, sitting about 20% opaque. Nose is intensely grassy and dry, with some heavy notes of muddy, earthy yeast. Heavy and rich on the tongue up front, then quickly drying, with some creamed orange and melon flavors, and some dry ashy notes in the the long-lasting, dry and parches and scathing finish. Over time it starts to develop some burng olive and peanut oil notes, and the hops are so mangled and seem so thrown togethor, it just doesn’t come togethor as anything desirable. Messy, hugely hoppy but unclean and unpolished, aggressive when it needs not to be, and it relies entirely on high bitterness and not on any flavors that could have been extracted from the hops.
